It might be some sense that humanoids don't normally have. I'd limit it to steel dragons, myself. As for half-dragons, I'd say that a half-steel might recognize a full-on steel dragon, or at the least would sense that there was something more to them. As for the other way around, I'd say that a full-on steel dragon would recognize a half-steel.

I'd call it "dragon-sense", lol! I've noticed that most dragons tend to be able to recognize each other, perhaps it works by smell. Most dragons (especially metallics) have a "signature scent" that follows them, so maybe other dragons are better at noticing that. (Golds, for example, always smell like saffron, and silvers have a "rain" scent.) Since a dragon's senses are so acute, they may beable to pick up traces of this that linger even through a shape-change.
