Oh my friend, Don't spoil it for your self. Read the book it is worth it. You can probably find it on half.com or ebay if nothing else works. |
Wow! That has no saving throw written all over it. |

Ah. I see your problem.
Well, I haven't read it myself. But, basically, Elminster and company all save the day. Oh, and Evereska's mythal gets infected by the Shadow Weave. Either that, or it becomes "whole" magic, with both types combined like it was in the begining. I'm not too clear on that. I really should catch up on my FR reading one of these days. So much to do . . . .
If you look around on this site, you might be able to find other clues as to what happened. I haven't paid much attention to them, but I know they're here. |

I would also suggest you visit the WotC FR forums, as there are a number of trilogy reviews for the various books sometimes posted in the 'Novels' section. Failing that, you could post this question to the FR Mailing List. I am sure there are a number of people there who can also help.

SPOILERS, BEWARE YOU SPOILER HATING PEOPLE YOU
If you really, really, really want to know what happens in The Sorcerer, Book III of the Return of the Archwizards, I can pretty much sum it up in three simple, Latin, words: deus ex machina.
Essentially the first two books build up Shade as an unstoppable, nigh-invicible foe and building up to the certain-doom of Evereska, and then Galeron and four or five of the Chosen manage to kill all but I think three of the Shade Princes and nearly (nearly) drop Shade Enclave out of the sky, save Evereska, repair the mythal, and drive off the Phaerim with near unbelievable ease.
Most of it seems to hinge of Galeron's amazing (please note scathing sarcasm) realization that he can use Shadow Magic without corrupting himself (and after the first two book and other sources say thats exactly what Shadow Magic does, but we do not want our protagonist bogged down by limitation like that do we?). Also it seems that all of s udeen he and the Chosen (and many of the elves) can now kill phaerim as if they were no more than jumped-up kobolds with tail-barbs.
Really it's rather disappointing. In the ends Evereska is saved, however most of it has been ruined and the majority of it's population slaughtered (geeze, between the Drow and the Shade why doesn't Wizards just destroy all the elves on Faerun and replace them with more humans), however Galeron managed to help save the mythal (how the heck could a sorcerer ever take part in a Ritual of the Myriad???) but catch 22, Galeron infused the mythal with Shadow Magic, oh no!
Liberally applied sarcasm aside, the entire trilogy was a complete mess, destroying everything in it's path and confusing all it's loyal readers. It's worse than Godfather III. Okay, I'm done. |

Exactly. Denning had written himself into a corner with the need to introduce the Shade for 3.0 and now needed the Chosen Get out of Jail Free card to be pulled once again.

LOL! FR's version of the Godfather III. I now only need to look for a character in the book that reminds me of Sofia Coppola. |
