And I'll try to pop in and answer questions as they come up. Have a great time in graveyard! Watch out for the shrubbery! Is that hedge moving....

City of the Dead popped up today in a Fantasy Magazine contest. I had completely missed this until Robinson sent me a note. You can see it listed here: http://www.darkfantasy.org/fantasy/?p=4568
This is a contest for a book "most likely to hook someone who doesn’t usually read fantasy."
I'm flattered that anyone thinks this makes for good entry reading for fantasy or the Realms. I'm also hoping that the clever scribes of Candlekeep also find it entertaining for loremasters too. |

This does not surprise me at all, the book had a wonderful story line, well written characters, and a light hearted funny/romantic plot...that just happened to take place in Waterdeep, surrounded by a magical world.
Honestly Miss Jones....for those of us who read it....no shocker at all...the only shock would be if you didn't win the contest |

Question... any elves in this book? As main or co-characters?
Thanks! CEV |

the weeping statue was interesting peeping at sophraea through her fingers and commanding the mist away from her did the Carvers build her?
How big is the Carver family it feels massive and is it unusual for girl's to be born in the family is there a reason for this or just pure chance?
This is just me but I didn't like some of the name's of the character's in the book like Judicious,Vigilant there feel more like title's then name's and when I see Stunk name I keep thinking of stink. Rampaging stink
Really liked the character of Volponia will we see more of her, how did see become a pirate queen and how do the carvers feel about a former pirate in the family
I didn't realise that Waterdeep had newspapers like the blue unicorn, I enjoyed the scene when Volponia was moaning about the articles in it
ah that what Gustin wanted a statue for lol
enjoying the story I'm heading on towards chapter 6 now

No elves. Just didn't fit into this story.
The last couple of generations are heavy on boys - as sometimes happens. So other than Volponia and Sophraea, the "women" in the Carvers are all in-laws. But they are still very much FAMILY.

Not that this is a comment of my own, but one of my local D&D-mates mentioned that he had had a dream recently inspired by the particular description in this novel, in which he was running through the City of the Dead being chased by undead horrors.
Just thought I'd share!
