Does anyone else have this 4 book set? It took me 6 years to find book 3 of the set, now it is complete *rubs hands together and gives an evil laugh*

Just curious to hear others reactions to it and if anyone but me uses and converts the stuff to 3.0 and later useability

I bought them as they came out in the 90's. They are still among my favourite gaming supplements.

As for converting them. Never, that would mean playing something else than 2ed. and that just wouldn't do. Come to think of it I have converted items to other systems though.

They are, along with the PHB, DMG and Oriental Adventures books, the only 2E books I still have in hardcopy that is not "Realms Only". And I love them. The fact that there is a lot of lore in those books is too awesome.

I actually DO know everything. I just have a very poor index of my knowledge.

That's a real shame...these books contain ALL items from AD&D and Spelljammer. If you ever have the chance look into them VERY worth whatever you end up having to pay for them.

I have them in my bookshelf stored away with my other non-realms 2E material (of which there aren't that many, about the same as what I have in 4E material)

That's a real shame as well...I still have all my original 1st ed and AD&D stuff (about 25 hardbound books in all) My Mom and Dad knew I would want to save them so they were kind enough to store them while I was tramping around in the Army for 11 years...then when I got out Mom surprised me with the whole box when I settled down here. Brought a tear to my eye I tell ya.

Ahhh... I don't have them in hardcopy but I've worked very diligently (and spent a fair amount of $$$) to get everything electronically.

Yes. Everything.

That's true... but if it's on the computer, they have no idea where it's from.

I always dig out my copies, since they are sitting near the comp, and look through them for magical items. Same with the four book set for arcane spells and the three book set for divine spells. I love those sets!

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Well I hope you do get a chance to pick them up, as I mentioned it took me a long while to get a (decent) copy of book 3. Found it in a used bookstore in my home town...$3.50 can you believe it...I was so happy.

Yes it is...I picked up all 4 when they first came out...1993 or so, when I was stationed in Germany...got them at the on post bookstore on the cheap...but when I came home the packers lost a box of my books...that one box had one D&D book in it...book 3. I am fairly sure I cried(shhh don't tell).

Indeed. I've got two copies of the entire set. One set of Encyclopedia Magica are always handy, and floating around my library, near my bed, or around the privy. The other set is at work, where I sometimes like to read them, just for the fun of it!

The E.M. are the only 2E non-Realms books I still have. I use them CONSTANTLY as a DM, mostly as a source of inspiration for item backgrounds. I mostly don't translate the 2E items into 3E, but take a history and make a cool 3E item from that.

I have them somewhere - I bought everything back then.

I haven't seen them in awhile though, and I recently discovered all my Volo's Guides in a box in my Ex's attic, so I just hope I didn't leave those behind as well.

Glad to see so many people still use them. Makes me feel better about bringing items up from 2E to 3 or 3.5E.

My favorite item in the books...
Arabelles Huggable Bear: Vol 1, Pg 52(ish)

This bear is a stuffed teddy bear that protects the owners sleep
with a 3 yard diameter Circle of Protection.
No bad dreams or (more importantly for the player in my current campaign) no night time sleep suggestion or dream manipulation.

The pic is a big mean looking fighter type all cuddled up holding the bear...AWESOME....the player in my game that has it is a halfling...so he uses it as a body pillow

True, that. I have almost all things (O)(A)D&D (1st ed - 2nd ed) in electronic form (either bought or scanned), but I still keep the EM, WSC and PSC on my bookshelf.
