Mentioned in several other threads is the fact that I'm running Ruins of Adventure for some friends. I'm using it as the launching points for a series of adventures, so I'm trying to be as consistent with canon as possible.
The 1E/2E books are essentially 1356-1358, right? Would someone be willing to help me figure out some of the backdating?
1) What is Zhentil Keep like? 2) What is Cormyr like? 3) What is Impiltur like? 4) What is Thay like? 5) How are the Elves?
I think these are my main concerns, really. Most of the PCs ended up being from either Cormyr or Zhentil Keep.

First, do you have A Grand History of the Forgotten Realms? It's the best sourcebook from 2e (maybe because it mostly wasn't done by WotC) and has a consolidated timeline for much of Toril.
1) The 2e boxed set Ruins of Zhentil Keep gives a detailed description on the rise of the Zhentarim, check this. 2) Not so sure. When was Gondegal's rebellion? Cormyr: A Novel is a good source for this. 3) Absolutely no idea. George Krashos is the local Impiltur expert, see if you can get him to weigh in. 4) Pretty much what it's like now, just with a couple different names as Zulkirs. Check Spellbound for more info. 5) Again, pretty much as they are now, in the wider context. The debate on whether to Retreat or not is still going on, so there are a lot more elves in Cormanthor than currently, and they keep humans out much more energetically.
Hope this helps. |
Doggedly converting 3e back to what D&D should be... Sigh... And now 4e as well. |

| I agree that a "Grand History of the Forgotten Realms" is a great source to answer all your questions! :) |

I think you mean A Grand Tour of the Realms -- from the 2e FR boxed set. |

The current events, politics, and adventuring possibilities to be found in Thay and the surrounding regions circa 1357 DR are detailed in Dreams of the Red Wizards.
1357 DR is the Present date for that supplement, and an exhaustive number of plots and adventure seeds take root in that year, many of which link into each other, and many of which are not touched on in Grand History because they are of a limited scope or occur behind the scenes. |
