So if you were a DM (which I assume most who are reading this have been a one time), if a caster were to have an item of power such as an artifact, to act as the....focus of a epic spell, how much would you drop the DC?
Would it depend on the artifact strength, history would it matter at all. I don't mead draining any of its energy, but using it as a storage bin and catalyst until other parts of said epic spell were cast.
Anybody chewed on this before?

| To keep it simple, I would suggest a -20 Spellcraft DC modifier for minor artifacts and a -40 Spellcraft DC modifier for major artifacts. That is just something I came up with on the fly after looking at other Epic Spell Mitigating Factors. Feel free to wait and see what others suggest. |

I am not sure I would drop the DC at all, because the item would likely give bonus points to casting.
It however clearly depends on the item, what bonus and penalties it offers.
The artifact by its very nature effects DCs, no other adjustment appears to be required. |

That really depends on the artifact, not all artifacts give bonuses to Ability/Skill checks. So unless the artifact in question in some way affects the Spellcraft check (i.e. with an Int bonus or a Spellcraft bonus) I would say that using it as a focus for the Epic spell should decrease the DC; and depending on the bonus, maybe even if it does (give an Int or Spellcraft bonus). Alternately, I could have suggested that it modifies the DC by -10 for minor artifacts and -20 for major artifacts. |
