Just read that this keep that the first mention of it is from dragon legends in around -25.000 DR.

Does anyone know its origin or what is inside or anything. The knowledge I have found is from FRCS, and it only suggests that a cabal of shadow weave users resides there. I dont believe that, especially if the plase is 30.000 years old!

I don't know if Brian covered it - its been sometime since I read that piece - but the GHotR seems to hint at it being the place where the original Dracorage Mythal was cast.

I don't know if that was supported at all by the novel-series relating to that event (I haven't read it), but I would be interested in hearing from other scribes if that is an accurate assessment or not.

The Dracorage Mythal was cast at some place way far to the north.

There's a few tidbits on Ironfang Keep in Bloodstone Lands as well. Also, see Demihuman Deities for two brief tidbits in Deep Duerra's entry.

And I'll note also that the "cabal of powerful (plane-hopping, and trading goods from plane to plane) wizards" in Ironfang Keep was part of Ed's original [pre-TSR, pre-publication] Realms.

Really? That sounds all kinda awesome.

In our long running campaign of nearly four years Iron Fang Keep ended up playing a critical role. One of the party members was a aspiring chronomancer, so I had to give a lot of thought on some of the practical problems of such magics.

One of the main issues I came across was where one would travel through time. If a chronomancer chose to go back in time one hundred years in a particular spot, who knows what would be found at that spot in that instant. The caster risks sharing the same space with all manner of hazards, from people to stone, to lava. What is needed is a place that doesn't change over time, a constant throughout all of history. A place you can go to, travel backwards and forwards without fear of interruption or immediate danger... you're looking for Iron Fang Keep!

That's the widely accepted interpretation- this would have been prior to their deal with Jergal.
