I'm speaking about the famous seer, not our lovely supreme overlord on the forum.
I was checking the front page on candlekeep.com when I noticed this excerpt from a text by Alaundo:
"It has been given to me to see glimpses of the future, moments of the measureless time that lie ahead for this world of Toril, called by some the Forgotten Realms. I sit here among halls upon halls and chambers upon chambers crammed with books, books that capture something of our great past. All too often, folk want to know where the bones of great kings or legendary dragons lie...or more precisely where their treasure may be found, if the truth be told. There are a few questors however, whose eyes hold the light of wonder, and who want to know more of this vast, glorious, historied world..." - Alaundo of Candlekeep
Looks like he foresaw the mmo-ization of the realms and took a shot at it. As expected from the Prophet.

I suppose we should have expected nothing less form someone who could be described as all-seeing.
And while I admire Big Al....not sure I have every thought of him as a Lovely supreme overlord! |

Wanting to be rewarded for risking life and limb is hardly limited to MMORPGs, but I think is the case in all RPGs, electronic or pen and paper. After all, even heroes have to eat.

Not saying you're wrong, mind, but that seems to be an example of reading one's own bias into something. You don't like 4e, so you interpret this comment to be praising all the things that 4e is not. Just sounds like a stretch to me.
One could as easily say this is an indictment of 3e, and how a lot of its lore contradicts or completely ignores 2e stuff.
Also, the Realms has ALWAYS had its "blah, blah, blah--kill!" folk, regardless of edition. Just because all the 4e lore has not been (and might never be) officially filled in by WotC doesn't mean it's a lore-less setting. It just puts more of the onus on the Dungeon Master and gives him less to work with, should he be used to relying heavily on the canon.
Then again, the best prophecies come about through creative interpretation, and who knows? Alaundo IS a master sage (both of them)--he could be saying exactly what you think. |

Heh. When Ed wrote those words, he wasn't thinking of ANY game edition. He was, as usual, commenting in human nature.
(Which is, of course, what all fiction is really about.)
