This is probably going to sound like a ridiculously ignorant question, but how do most people role play a wizard scribing a spell to his spellbook?
I know you pay so many gold peaces per spell per page the spell takes up in the book in "the necessary materials"; but what are these materials and who do you usually have sell them?
Thanks for taking the time to read this at least,

Mal.

There aren't specific materials when you copy a spell in your spellbook. It's just when you cast it.
For the role play, the player should be in good conditions to copy it (in a room of a tavern, in his house,...) but i can't see what can be add to spice up this a little

I usually have the ink and paper and/or books just be really expensive and relatively hard to find if not in a large city like Waterdeep, etc.
I have magic shops that stock various things ranging from spell components to various items needed to create an alchemical lab to magical potions. They sell the ready made ink, paper and/or books, or the various materials needed to create the ink yourself. One vial will suffice for 2d10 levels of spells and costs 200gp.

If the player wants to craft the ink themselves, they must first have (or have access to) an alchemical lab, then they must find/buy various ingredients, like the eye of a basilisk, giant squid ink, powdered dragon horn, etc (use your imagination here). The cost can be whatever you decide. Once they have all that, then they can try to create the ink. They must have some type of skill to do this, like alchemy or something similar. In my game it takes one day to create one vial of ink suitable for spell inscription.

Thanks To both of You,

This really clears up a lot of things. I kind of like to have a "method" to fall back on if someone asks questions like this where the players want to know how they're supposed to be doing something.

The way I understood it is that the designers left it that vague intentionally, for just this sort of thing.

Exactly. This was left entirely up to the DM and the player involved so that no gaming group would ever have the same process. Also it allows for greater creativity and flexibility on the DM's part.
