I know there are rangers that specialize in underground ranger skills because A. Drizzt and B in the silver marches book the deep scouts of Citadel Adbar is made up of rangers and rouges. I'm writing about a dwarven ranger and I guess for a lot of it I can use common sense but I have been looking for stats or underground spells. The closet I have come to it is the deepwarden prestige class in races of stone and the cavelord in underdark. What I'm pretty much trying to figure out is are the any major ways in which an underground aka underdark ranges differ from a forest ranger other then terrain? Reading heat signatures in a foot print apposed to looking at bent blade of grass.
Also is the process for rangers gaining companions the same has how a caster gains a familiar?
Rangers getting companions is more akin to the druid gaining a companion. There should be a PHB entry under druid; the ranger's effective druid level when it comes to the animal companion should be half his ranger level.
Edit: Correction
Being sarcastic can be more telling than simply telling.

"Nobody listens to the Ranger!"
Our groups are all sticking with 3.X classic Realms.
I've always liked this PrC for Rangers. I especially like the mountain and underground versions for Dwarves. I'm currently playing a Shield Dwarf Rogue/Ranger 5/5, and I plan on taking a couple of levels soon.
