I just purchased the 1994 version of Crown of Fire and was wondering if there are any differences from the 2002 or 2005 reprint other than the cover art

Is this in any way related to Vhostym's Crown of Fire Epic (?) spell in the Erevis Cale trilogy? Judging by the dates, I would think not, but one can't always be sure....

Crown of Fire was the second book in Shandril's Saga, the first being Spellfire. It was originally published as book 9 of the Harpers series. The title refers to a spellfire manifestation (described in game terms in Volo's Guide to All Things Magical, formerly a suppressed work , which is now available for free from the Wizards downloads page).

Other than the name, it has nothing to do with Erevis Cale, predating the Sembia novels by many years. Vhostym's "crown of fire" was something entirely different.

We understand that. I don't have an answer to that question, but I do have an answer to the other question asked in this thread. I was replying to that one.

I own both copies of that book, there is no difference between the two. ( except of course the size of the book, one being a normal paperbook, and the newer version being a trade paperback, and a different cover.) Its basically like the way they took the other harper's books that were by Cunningham and gave them new versions, since they were a "series within a series".

Wasn't Vhostym's spell called something other than crown of fire? like crown of flame or soemthing? basically it was a personal eclipse that stayed fixed in place for an entire day, right? crown of fire referred to a crown-like manifestation of spellfire. I haven't read shandril in years.
