I've a wee problem with a little concept... How are Tempest Elementals created, if not by a Summoner... and how would one actually disperse a Tempest elemental? Would yeh just have to wait untill it burned off all of its energy? Or is there a certain tactic?

"Well what are we supposed to do with a Druid in our party that is almost constantly a bulking huge Iron Golem with enough strength to carry everything all of us has at once, including us, the highest defense our party has ever seen, and physical then magical resist out the yin yang? ... Useless."

I am assuming that you are meaning the Composite Elemental: Tempest from the old 2e Monstrous Manual, since I don't recall them being updated to 3e yet.

Anyway, here's what I know -

* Tempest elementals are normally composed of all four of the basic elements. There is some belief that they are related to genie-kind. There is some sagely evidence to suggest that these Tempest Elementals are genie (jann) that have been gravely injured or wounded in such a way that they cannot retain or revert to their human form.

* They are summoned, normally by accident, when a elemental summoner tries to summon (any) type of elemental, especially an air or water elemental. There is normally a 10%-to-%50 chance that this will occur, but is mainly determined by the DM.

* It is written that they are immune to all wind, gas, and water attacks. Tempests will only receive half damage from all electrical or cold-based attacks.

* They are are also invulnerable to all slashing weapons of less than +2 enchantment.

There really isn't a special strategy to battling these creatures other than the tactics you would normally use to combat all elemental-type creatures.

Anyway I would suggest consulting the 2e Monstrous Manual for more details, as there is more information scattered about in other monster entries which may be of some use for you.

Hope that helps,

May all your learning be free and unfettered
