Hi,

I'm halfway through reading Undead (witch is amazing) and I keep wondering, since Unclean, how necromancers can control entire armies of undeads or bind undead for long periods (like Zola Sethrakt saying that she can bind Tammith event if she didn't create her).
For sure the power of Xingax play a part, but he can't control the entire army.

Can the rules allows that or the novel go beyond the rules.

Command Undead allow long control, but quite incomplete. Control Undead allows complete control, but not for an extended period.

So how is it possible to translate this in gameplay for my high level necromancer ?

Thanks

Tam could have used Epic magic. But more practically, he probably has intelligent undead followers who are allied with him, or follow him, without being directly under his control. Through them he has a loose chain of command.

If you were an intelligent undead in Thay, wouldn't you naturally ally yourself with the school of necromancy? They are quite possibly ex-living members of the school, etc.

It should be remembered that even while novels are canon, that does not mean there is a rule followed available to PCs.

The spell could be a custom one that others can not yet learn, also as already indicated it might be an Epic spell.

Just because an NPC can do it, does not mean a PC can do it.

"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards."
"Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding.
"After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first."
