Does anyone know when these books are set? I looked in the GHotR but couldn't find any reference to them. Are they even considered canon?

Yes, they are canon. All novels are (or will be) canon.

O Love's Novels Timeline sets them in 1366, the Year of the Staff.

OK cool, but that timeline isn't right because there's a gap of three years between the 2nd and 3rd books.

Please elaborate! Since there are no given years/year names in the books (like in newer novels), I took that information from Wizards' own novel timeline.

Aha, OK. Well, the books are quite vague about the passage of time for the most part with large sections of overland travel skipped over so there's never any concrete idea of how much time each book actually spans.

===SPOILERS FOLLOW===

Queen Brianna of Hartwick is stated as having been pregnant for three years (she's descended from giants so that's normal apparently) at the start of the third book. She fell pregnant around the middle of the second book.

I checked the Giantcraft book which relates the myths and histories of the region and giant-kind in Faerun, but there are no dates in that sourcebook either. Maybe this is a question that should be posted to Troy Denning himself...

What a pain that must be.

===SPOILERS===

Imagine going through that, and then discovering that half of all giants want to kill your baby, and the other half want to kidnap him to recreate the Giant Empire of Ostoria. Then learning that your baby has two fathers - one, your beloved Firbolg husband, and two, the original and originator of all Ettins who drugged and essentially raped you.

Yes, that would suck even more.
