Reading Longtime Lurker's post, this comes to my mind: R.A. Salvatore, Ed, and Boyd are freelancers, so they'll still be around when the staffers at WotC get replaced by the next generation of designers... so although I hold no hope for 4E Realms, there *IS* the possibility that in the long-term, an *enlightened* WotC replacement staffer would pull a huge return to the future and forget those horrible "Days of Future Past" |

You can always hope but in companies the size of WoTC and bigger it ends up just being sales, which matter. ie. to avoid what happened to TSR.
Only problem is if 4th ed Realms bombs, then most likely it'll get dropped rather than revised. |

Heh, I just used "Days of Future Past" as an analogy when talking about this situation to Darkmeer last night. |

This is something I fear could happen....or they might just cut the game product line and ONLY continue the novel line. |

*nods* That's what I hate the most about all this from a fiction standpoint (I rarely get to play in the FR any more). I liked these characters and now they're gone because some marketing **** decided that killing them would please the fanboys because "they're too strong, my characters can't do anything!"
quote: Most of Ed's will be dead.. from old age or from not being chosen anymore. Bob's characters are all in question.. I for one hope he doesn't advance his timeline. And Elaine.. well... who knows if she'll ever write the Realms again, but all of her characters except for 2 of them will be dead.
Well, we can always hope for some undead action... ;) |

He may not have a choice.
Maybe, maybe not. We've got 2 years before we find out. :)
Does anyone else find it terribly amusing that the Elminster books just got reprinted in the Anotated and now they're releasing all the Collected Edition Drizzt books until the Legends of heading when all of these books don't mean anything to the Realms anymore?
Truth be told, some of the stuff WoTC did at the very end (the Annotated Elminster, the Rules Compendium, etc.) seem almost like a slap in the face in retrospect. Sort of, "Ahah, here's what you fanboys wanted all this time, and we'll give it to you, now that it doesn't mean anything any more! Muwahaha!" |

Ed do not leader this ship nowadays! Just accept that! He is just a writer, only that! He already sold this trademark to TSR and now WotC! Please, just ACCEPT THAT! |

I think this scroll has been agured several times in every possible way. I hate to see a scroll locked...but now may be the time. |

He sold it, now it will either sell or it will bomb out, along with dragonlance, following them, greyhawk and eberron will not be far behind |
why is being a wizard like being a drow? both are likely to find a dagger in the back from a rival or one looking to further his own goals, fame and power

I think this point has been debated enough. And given the recent trends of conversation here at Candlekeep about 4e, the future of the Realms, and the work of designers, I think it would be best to just close this scroll for now.
