I have a problem with the server of Candlekeep at all computers I use (at work, at univercity, at home and with my laptop) while visiting this site. It takes forever to connect after/whole posting a message, so it seems. The info I get afterwards is the following:

'Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0113'

Script timed out

/post_info.asp

The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools.'

The message is usually posted after all but sometimes not counted. That fact does not really bother me but it gets annoying after a while and makes posting somewhat bothersome.

Any ideas how can I might be able to solve this problem?

It's a long standing issue because Keep shares server space with others, so there's not much we can do. We've been fighting it on and off for 2 years. :)

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Sorry, looks like I left the gremlin cage open again.

...

Seriously, yes, Kuje is on the mark. We're hoping that the proposed Forum update ["Candlekeep 2"] will work toward correcting this issue in the future. But for now... we're at the mercy of the servers supporting this site.

At least I now know that it is indeed a server problem and not one that I managed to create myself somehow.

Thanks for the fast answer.

Yep, it's been a common feature over the last two days. Maybe we should breed some gremlins to chase out the bugs?

Ack-chew-ally, I just found out an hour or so ago that an undersea internet cable broke in the Indian Ocean or Persian Gulf or some such place. It's bad enough that we now have to queue up behind customer service calls going from Burbank to Bombay by way of Buenos Aires, but TWO OTHER cables have apparently been broken in the Mediterranean for a week or more. It's nice to be so well-served by my ISP that they couldn't take the time to tell me, "Oh by the way, you're going to be running at 1.3 kbs for the forseeable future."

Bah!

Ed Greenwood, please answer my question as to whether or not there's a Hyborian-type "Sorcerous News" chatroom on Abeir-Toril. If there is, I wanna sign up for it!

Work has begun to repair the two breaks in the Mediterranean, but that will take a while, and the cable going directly to India remains unrepaired. I think global Internet speeds are going to be down for a month or more.

I have a question about this server, though: if we have multiple Candlkeeep tabs or windows open on our own computers, are we slowing down the Candlekeep server, or just slowing down our own computers?

I use this topic in order to ask other scribes if they have any problems with "obtaining the pages on the screen".
In my case, every night, at home, round 20 to 23 o'clock (15 to 18 hours ago), I wait a lot for the pages arriving !
And in the day, at the office, I can reach them in very few seconds.
Do you feel the same ? big differences of surfing according to the hour you connect ?
I'm just afraid about the capabilities of my computer at home !

Thanks a lot

Sometimes pages load speedily and with no issues. Other times, it takes 40 forevers for pages to load, if at all. And I've had times that both would occur within an hour or so of each other. If there is any pattern, I've not seen it.

Thanks Wooly and
ef'halisto para poli Bardobarbaros.
I feel less alone !
Alwways about the server, does someone pay for using it ?
Has it already been thought about changing it ? To choose a paying one by example ? In order to be quiet !

That's just a question, not the beginning of a rebellion !!

Try harder!

Indeed, there are issues with the server on which Candlekeep is hosted, which has been mentioned elsewhere on the forums.

It appears to be behaving over the past day or so, since I had a few strong words. Fingers crossed.

Alaundo, if my question is not tactless, does someone pay for using the server ?

Indeed, a big thanks to Alaundo for his devotion, efforts and willingness to keep this place running!

However Fillow, if you so wish you can support Candlekeep financially as well. There is a donation facility at the very bottom of Candlekeep - Home to support Candlekeep with a few zonths or lions yourself...

Which link do you speak about? The link in my post above to Candlekeep.com - Home or the 'Donate via PayPal' link???

Both seem to function properly when I use them....

I think we've all been seeing way too much of that one... Assuming that a page loads at all.

I did just notice something odd. I've got CKeep pages that are taking forever to load in IE7. The exact same pages load quite quickly with FireFox (2.0.014).
