| I really liked this story. It was kind of understated, and showed a side of war that wasn't over the top, and given the many wars over the years in Toril, with various magics and monsters and such, its easy to go that route, instead of telling the story of the simple scout that gets the message to the commander, even if he has to give his life. |

Indeed, this is a small-scale "personal" story and that's exactly the kind I like. When I first started reading I didn't think all three protagonists would die.

| I really liked this one. Cordell wrote a story that's romantic as well as hard-edged and made both aspects work together. |

Knowing that at least one protagonist was already dead at the onset, yet having the tale make you care enough to want to find out why and how is no small feat. Small and wonderful, even if everyone died.
One small nit/error: wasn't the black arrow supposed to signify east, not west? In my version, there are two arrows signifying west, one south, one north, but none east, where the main attack was being launched from. Edit 1: For clarity, the emerald arrow also denoted west (with scarlet for south and silver for north).
Edit 2: Also, was the eastern attack not supposed to be from the Easting Reach, not Lake Ashane? Sarshel does/did not lie on the shores of Lake Ashane as far as I know. |
