Since this is the Player's section I thought I would start a little thread where people can come and blow off steam when necessary. Has your DM made a ruling that you find unfair? Did he smite your character because you didn't give him a Christmas present? Or does he just talk with a mouth full of cookies when he's describing the temple of the evil cannibal gnomes? You can't complain to him because he holds the life of your precious PC's life in the palm of his dice hand. But, you can do it here, without the fear of retaliation (you know one of those "whoops looks like you randomly encountered the Tarasque" kind of situations). So, if your DM does (or has done) something that just really got on your nerves, now is your chance to vent.

Yes, unless the DM in question also reads these forums and knows your user name.

My only gripe is that my dm likes to play as much as i do, so usually 50% of the time i have to do it.

My gripe? I'm always DM. I love it, but I never get a chance to play.

Also, the last time I had a chance to game with serious, mature players (the type who enjoy roleplaying as much, or more, than roll-playing) was over six years ago. I miss that. *sigh*

My big problem with my DM right now is I can't seem to get him to DM. At first it was because it was football season and every weekend had to be devoted to nothing but football. Now that the season is over, I still can't get him to run. I'm not sure if he has just lost interest in the game or what. But I suspect it has something to do with his new girlfriend. I don't think she likes it when we game. His old girlfriend used to play with us, and though he did play favorites a little (it's only to be expected and no one really minded) at least then we were playing.

Whatever the case may be, it sounds like you're best off finding a new DM. My personal guess is that he's lost interest in the game (at least at this point).

you see, this is why I don't play (D&D) with my girlfriend. I did that in one two campaigns. one as a player, one as a DM. I found "earthquakes" occuring alot in the rolling area. as a player, it was kind of hard to make unbaised desicions as the party leader. if there's two plots, one with her being central, one being one of my friends, well... let's just say my friends weren't always happy! but what can I say?

I have a few gripes about my past DM's.

1: My second DM would force his player characters to have gay sex. And Like it. Period. No say.

2: My first DM, and the main DM who dm's when I'm not seeing as I am the main DM, smited my character because I did an insult to Torm. I said my character doesn't like Torm. Torm then struck me with lighting. Repeatedly. I lost Charisma due to the damage. You could insult every other God you want, but not Torm. Torm was DM's fave God.

It's not often I say this, but that's two people that shouldn't be behind the screen.

I actually DO know everything. I just have a very poor index of my knowledge.

Find the second DM a boyfriend...

Don't bother worrying about the first DM...just don't play with him any longer!

Well the gay DM just felt we didn't respect the fact he was gay and he wanted to prove that gay characters can exist. We had no problem with him being gay, or there being gay characters. Our problem was with the forced gay sex which wasn't something we wanted in the game. He rarely DM's for us, and has found his own batch of players where the Roleplay sex all the time at epic levels of level 60's and up. He's happy, so yay.

The other DM is fine most of the time. I find his stories pretty boring myself, as it tends to be ... nothing going on. At all. Or stupid. He belives that we should know what going on, and gets mad when we don't know. Like our current game, has some woman uber powerful weapon of something or another that a /evil/ country uses to break /good/ country wards. She cannot be tracked at all. She cannot be divined at all. She can break any spell she wants. We're suppose to find this woman. We should have known that the high generals in the /evil/ country don't want to have a war with /good/ country and would help us. We should have also know that the /good/ country pleasents were being brainwashed into being stupid, since no-one realized or care that the 150 foot golem guardians were missing, despite us pointing it out, by poisoned food that evil country brought in. The hint that we should have known was by us puking fresh food from a further area that hasnt been tainted by food. ... I guess we're suppose to stop the war or something. I don't really know.

He tends to be Ok at times, just don't insult Torm. At all. Dude has yet to make a character that didn't worship Torm in one fashion or another.

I love PMs! Please send me a message. Even if its Hi.

As for complaints:

Standing in the Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl and having FIVE Ogre Magi hit your party with FIVE cones of cold at once. Yes, I was standing in the center point of all five attacks and became an icy pillar. (1st Ed.)

Giving Drow Zombies Magic Resistance! It kinda made sense...but drove me nuts! (1st Ed.)

Giving the enemy I had just defeated "one last wish before he dies..." which resulted in me losing the fight after I had reduced the fella to about negative twenty-something hit points in my last attack. (2nd Edition)

Allowing a Wizard's Gate Spell to allow in several dozen demons at once...even after I had tried the same "variant spell" only a few weeks before. (2nd Edition)

Right now my main complaint would be: I can't find anyone to run a game for me! (ANY EDITION!)

The Old Grey Box and AD&D for me!

My crummy DM uses only like 2-3 hours planing a session, and we only play about 3-4 times a yeah, so all the time in betweene I use looking for new feats, abilities and spells. That makes me know so much more. So each time I find something new that can boost my abilities or power, he calls it an exployd I just use the rules of he game to its fulest!

And because he doest use the time researching/studying D&D, he wont let me have more than half the cool feats, abilities or spells I find!

Personally I dont feel it fair to "punish" me for being a nerd and using a lot of time maximizing my character! To hell with the ballance of the game! I JUST WANT POWER!!!! He can just up the CR of the foes we face!

I wouldn't call it the fault of the DM if his play style and yours don't mesh.

One of my former DMs remains a good friend of mine (he was one of my groomsmen, I was one of his, and our wives were bridesmaids to each other), but I swore off playing in games he ran many years ago -- maybe 1998 or so. I had a lot of complaints about him as a DM, but the final straw was a disastrous game session, set on yet another of his homebrew worlds. It all started with me failing a Dexterity check I didn't think I should have had to make, and ended with half of the party being dead. My character was one of the dead ones, slain at the hands of another PC. Another PC was dead from falling off this chunk of land floating in the sky -- he fell off because of the Dex check I failed, and the PC that attacked me for some reason decided I had thrown the other PC off of the island. So in the very first session of a new campaign, half of the party was slain by the other half. And the DM didn't try to stop it or call a do-over.

That was the last straw for me, and I'm sad to say it prolly contributed greatly to the demise of our gaming group (as such -- we all remained friends and still hung out, and with the exception of one person, all of us remain friends).

Make no mistake... My DM is one of my best friends, but it is frustrating that he uses so little time in the realms. So I dont get credit for all my long hours of searching for more power! Besides that, I love the old guy!

I think you are lucky he haven't made your PC fight some organisations who were interested in your obsession with power in not good way. Or he could trap your character in Abyss with Dead magic zone to die by claws of hungry fiends.

Heh. Should feel lucky. One of my players past DM was a real killer DM. He once got on a horse and was killed by his God, because he was /stealing/ a horse. That DM killed another player for talking to a undercover Drow, and that was considered helping evil, so demons took that player to torture him.

Some of the players were killed simply for drinking water that they didn't check for poison. This water mind you, was in freaking Celestia. Despite the party being a good align party, they still weren't pure enough for that water.

So yeah. There are worst DM's out there.
