This is something I noticed after reading Grand History of the Realms and wanted to put my thoughts here. If you don't have the book yet and don't want to be spoiled then look away.
Okay, if anyone wants me to actually put down the exact passage then you can say otherwise I'm just going to refer to it. The passage I'm talking about is when Bane communicates with his High priest, Brest. He speaks of Fzoul (referring to his red hair) and speaks of his tyranny spreading from the golden road (is that the road near thesk that leads into the oriental land?) and then he refers to the lake of steam.
Current timeline could still be behind but by 4e could we be seeing a strengthening of the banite positions in those places. If so, how did Bane know this would happen? How did he know about Fzoul, the general places they'ld conquer and using Xvim as a seed before the ToT (because Xvim was always referred to as a Cambion until it got closer to the ToT when he disappeared, maybe ascended/promoted to deityhood?). Just seems rather odd that he would be revealing this to the first High priest of Zhentil Keep (when it was called Flostren's Hold) even though it actually has nothing to do with him .
As a side thing anyone think that the ruler of the area where the trio killed Borem was some servant of Jergal and gave the dagger to the trio to slay Borem, perhaps orchestrated by Jergal? We know jergal did plan it, we only don't know his means.

There are two possible answers to your question. Bane could have visited the Grand Library in Oghma’s domain and did some research in the prophecy’s section. I know this sounds silly but it has been established he has done this sort of research before at Oghma’s place. I believed it was mention in the Finder’s Bane trilogy. The second theory is the simplest for me, Bane is/was a greater god at the time with access to divination spells. All he had to do is cast a few spells to peek into the fluid future then hedge his bets. |
I hope Candlekeep continues to be the friendly forum of fellow Realms-lovers that it has always been, as we all go through this together. If you don’t want to move to the “new” Realms, that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with either you or the “old” Realms. Goodness knows Candlekeep, and the hearts of its scribes, are both big enough to accommodate both. If we want them to be. (Strikes dramatic pose, raises sword to gleam in the sunset, and hopes breeches won’t fall down.) Enough for now. The Realms lives! I have spoken! Ale and light wines half price, served by a smiling Storm Silverhand fetchingly clad in thigh-high boots and naught else! Ahem . . So saith Ed. <snip> love to all, THO

Actually, he refers to the flaming hair, not necessarily red. This COULD be interpreted that the person is a fire genasi... and there is a fire genasi ruling a city near the lake of steam which is opening a path from the lake of steam to the inner sea. I personally think its Fzoul, but there is another possibility.
The story of the ruler of the area was on the scale of a Topaz dragon. The area he says he rules was essentially around Westgate. 10 years later (-349 DR), the ruler of Westgate (a Topaz Dragon named Kiisonrathiisar) is killed by Saldrinar of the Seven Spells. While dying, Kiisonrathiisar magically inscribes a story on his scales about the hill of the lost gods.... therefore he's known for inscribing stories on his scales and he's a topaz dragon. In the story, he makes mention of his hoard and that humans are basically savages (very draconic mindset). From the FR campaign setting, section on the dragon coast and how it got its name it says "Most answers begin with the mention of the Dragon Kisonraathiisar".... therefore, I'd bet Kisonraathiisar had ruled the area in and around the Dragon Coast for a good length of time (at least 10 years, probably several hundred). I think on this we can nail that the ruler was a dragon named Kisonraathiisar... who may be in a scepter now according to the FRCS, but I don't know anything about that scepter. |

We already know Bane saw the future centuries ago ie the Orcale of Strife in the novel Pool of Twilight and infact new that he would die during the Time of Troubles |

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll look into this fire genasi chap and the library of Oghma is something I forget XD Definitely a great place to go to for knowledge, perhaps Bane did the usual of trading something with Oghma and did his homework.
As for the Oracle of Strife, do you mind giving me a little more info on it? Also about the pre-time of troubles novels that speak of Bane? Since the only novels I've managed to get my hands on and read was the Spellfire series (it made me sad!).
