This old boxed set runs about $40 or so. Is it worth it? Why/Why not?
|
When hinges creak in doorless chambers and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls, whenever candlelights flicker where the air is deathly still, that is the time when ghosts are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight. |

It's been a while since I perused that tome... But downloading the file doesn't mean you can't buy the books, still. You can download it, look thru it at your leisure, and decide whether or not you think it's worth it.
I believe the set was $25, originally. I recall that I quite liked it... But I'm thinking you should be able to find it for cheaper than $40. |

| That's a bit pricey, but it is one of the better box sets. If you are interested in the region its essential. Download it, have a quick read-through and decide. |

The North is newer, updated, and contains more lore.
But again, you can just download the file for free and make your own decisions. |

| The Savage Frontier has a charm of its own, but most of the information found there is also found in the North, with a great many aditi9ons.. When talking about the Region one should never overlook Waterdeep and the North though, which gives the first glimpse of the region. |

| Funny, this reminds me of Daggerford (which is detailed in the boxed set) -- do you think that it is a bit funny that every building has only a single family or resident? It is detailed as a city, rather than a small town, with a very "sophisticated" (for a lack of better term) guild system (i.e. more guilds than in Cormyr, for example). All this in a town of 500 hundred people or so feels a bit too much to my taste. |

I have to agree with Bard here. Of all the boxed sets I consider this one a must have. I also hate reading at length sitting at my PC, so I understand the want for a hard copy. I say buy it, $40.00 is not that far off for what I've seen it go for on a regular basis on Ebay. |

| It's an excellent resource on the Sword Coast North. On the other hand, if it was published today it would be derided for reprinting material from FR5 and VGN verbatim with relatively little, though mainly good, new material. |

| No opinion of the boxed set is as important as your own. And you've got the chance to, for free, see exactly what is in the box, and decide for yourself whether or not you want it. I don't understand why you wouldn't take advantage of that. It's like refusing to watch the trailer for a movie, and basing the decision on whether or not to see it entirely on reviews... |
