Hello Mr Boyd. I hope you are well.

I just noticed the walking statues of Waterdeep shrunk from 90 ft tall in 2e to 40 ft tall in 3.x City of Splendors: Waterdeep. Was this a design choice or typo?

Thanks in advance.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but if you compare most of the sizes between 2e and 3e (miles and population sizes, etc ect) they were all decreased to match the shrunken map they came up with for 3e faerun, I assume the statue shrinkage might be a symptom of that.

Well, you know it was very cold that day in Waterdeep when they did the measurements on the statues....

Steven
who prefers the 30-40 ft stature of them so they don't suddenly overpower all other buildings and make Waterdeep filled with way too many weird landmarks that dominate the skyline beyond all else

PS: I may be alone in this, but I'm of the mind that the damnable Walking Statues should have remained hidden away in the Astral or wherever Ahghairon stuck them for safekeeping, as they're absolutely a "Break Glass in Case of Kaiju Attack" sort of thing...even if I do understand they popped out due to Spellplague et al...

Whoever had the idea of the Walking Statues showing up everywhere was likely the same person who thought "this city literally exists because of its harbor -- so let's let a good chunk of that become a shanty town that does nothing aside from make less room for the trade the city is dependent on."

Yeah, that was a stupid development. I prefer my Waterdeep capitalist enough that they'll clear crap out of the harbor so that money keeps rolling in instead of worrying about the dregs having a shack that they can go build on the outskirts of the city. If you want to have a town full of homeless building shacks, there's plenty of other cities to do that in.

Alavairthae, may your skill prevail

Hi Eric! (Or Steven, or George, or Tom, etc.) I have a question about Westgate. Just how many wards/districts are there (or maybe better phrased, exactly how are Westgate's neighborhoods divided? Your Dragon #428 article lists the Temple District, the Dock Ward, and the East End (aka Shou Quarter?), and Erik Scott de Bie's Eye of Justice (p. 58) mentions a "warehouse district." Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate features an Arena District, Harbor Loop, and Market Triangle, and there are a few more listed on the Forgotten Realms wiki. None of these seem to have very hard-and-fast boundaries, though.

Thanks for all that you do!

Hello!

I am currently running a solo campaign where my pc is the last living Vyshaan in Faerun. He's on the run from the Eldreth Veluuthra and has no grandiose plans aside from staying alive. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on how Rhymanthiin might react if he showed up looking for safe harbor for a little while and any characters who might entertain speaking with him. I'd assume the sharn would immediately know his heritage and the Miyeritari descendants might feel a certain way if/when it was revealed. On the one hand, his ancestors would be despised, on the other they all know what it's like to be considered pariahs with nowhere to turn... Thank you so much!!

Well met.

I am researching Brown Mold because I introduced a new intelligent artifact rod that creates and controls Brown Mold. I researched for anything novel about Brown Mold in d&d and found out that Ulutiu has a connection..? Excluding mechanical discussion about tossing some in the plane of fire and some modified Mind Flayer variant, THIS fact about Ulutiu is a thread I want to pull on. A god was served by Brown Mold on Toril? The mysterious Ulutiu no doubt! While reviewing discussions on Ulutiu I found the one post suspecting him and Zotha being the same entity.. and I am now incorporating a destroyed icy comet in the artifact's backstory..

Powers & Pantheons states that Ulutiu is "served by Brown Mold" among other creatures. Can you or anyone else shed light on how that came about?
I was very surprised to find this implication of Brown Mold being able to "serve" a god. Is there a chance you can recall why the thing that gets killed by cold and seeks warmth is listed as such? Brown molds are typically non-intellgient and neutral in alignment- which certainly is one of the viable worshipper alignments (any non-chaotic). I get it but I also don't get it? I'm very curious!
