A fine evening to you all.
I've a question pertaining to the settling of Archendale. Even as late as 1356 D.R. (i.e., the beginning year of the original "Grey Box"), was Archendale already cleared of most - if not all - monsters? More specifically: is it possible to encounter Giant Crabs/Crayfish in the multitude of pools scattered within the gorge, or...have various heroic folk long-civilized the area by eliminating the gravest of wild threats, aquatic or otherwise?
(Why, yes, I have been thinking of The Stone Crab Coster.)

Stand with anybody that stands right. Stand with him while he is right and part with him when he goes wrong.
Earth names in the Realms are more common than you may think. |

| Never know what sort of monster might spawn somewhere...I would say for sure that if you want your party to encounter Giant Crayfish or some such, it is totally possible! |
The Old Grey Box and AD&D for me! |

| I brought this up because Archendale is right up there with Scardale as a "trading dale" (i.e., it boasts a large population to go with its well-developed landscape); plus, Archendale is noted as being "the wealthiest and best-defended Dale". Basically, my goal was to determine if the countryside and/or true wilderness (whatever remains, that is...) still posed a substantial risk to folk passing through. |

Archendale maybe "best-defended" but is also small place.
Forest around Archendale is big place. Dark, scary. Many monsters live in forest. Sometimes monsters leave big place and go to small places. |
