| Not impressed in the variety to be honest - a lot of Ed greenwood books, three harpers books and some complete series - but why is it that out of those we get only one book from the sundering series? |

Yeah, the variety is underwhelming... But it's got the Finder's Stone trilogy and Elaine's Counselors & Kings books, and I'd say those 6 alone are with $18.
There's some other books there, too, that I never got around to reading... |

I went through the wikis and compiled a list of all the books I hadn't read.
And I checked my list every time I saw used books available. Online, offline, at the used book store, on thrift store shelves, at garage sales, etc. Over time, I gradually found many items from that list, and kept it updated by crossing off each new addition. My lady even used it to get me small presents. I was quite surprised when I actually saw how many of these unread books I'd obtained.
One day I reclined and started reading the first of these books. It was terrible. "Young Reader" stuff, written for juveniles and in about the most insultingly juvenile way possible. By an author who clearly didn't have more than a very shallow understanding of the setting and the lore.
The next book was no better. And the next one after that was *somehow* even worse.
In the end, it turned out that I'd amassed about three dozen books and actually enjoyed exactly three of them. At least I managed to add some detail to my list - the names of authors whose work I respect and considered good - and the names of authors who are utterly contemptible.
I'm not claiming to have rarefied literary tastes by any means. But one doesn't need a degree in literature to recognize a garbage trash junk rubbish book or a garbage trash junk rubbish author for exactly what they are. I do know that if I were decades younger then I would have probably enjoyed more of these books than I did when I was decades older.
(Admittedly, these were largely Star Trek books instead of D&D and Forgotten Realms books. But I've read a lot of good, bad, excellent, and awful books from both of these franchises and I think they have a lot of overlap in terms of writing qualities and expected audience.) |
