Hi all!
A friend of mine wanted to adventure in Chessenta. I got copies of FR10: Old Empires (2e) and Lost Empires of Faerun (3.5e). Is there anything I missed for this land?
I thought it might be the Ancient Greece or Roman analog in Faerun (Chondath is closer to Ancient Rome than anything). However, looking at Old Empires, there are some similarities and some differences from that of Ancient Greece. (I also got the Age of Heroes Historical Reference for 2e and GURPS Greece.)
Is there anything you like to suggest that I'd get?

No, i did a much more canon timeline which just focused on trying to rationalise the stray events mentioned in novels and sourcebooks.
Its still very rough, mostly because a lot of Chessenta is undetailed and unaccounted for, but it roughly weaves together all the wars and alliances, etc.
c. 1050 DR When outsiders threaten Chessenta, the armies of Cimbar and Akanax threaten each other into cooperating; so far this has only occurred on one occasion - when Unther tried to reclaim Chessenta 300 years ago and failed miserably. 1117 DR Mordulkin defies the king of Cimbar, beginning the break-up of Chessenta into squabbling city-states. 1117 DR: Year of the Twelverule: Mordulkin vs Luthcheq War 1: Mordulkin and Luthcheq attack one another as tensions rise over the trade route to Cimbar. (Old Empires pg 55 states that there has been enmity between Lutcheq and Mordulkin before the Karanoks rose to power. Old Empires pg 4 mentions 3 Mordulkin vs Luthcheq wars) 1117 DR Year of the Twelverule Chessenta begins to break up into squabbling city-states. The Wizards’ Reach cities regain their independence. 1117 to 1154 DR – Breakup of Chessentan Alliance into squabbling city states. 1118 DR: Year of the False Bargain: Luthcheq and Mordulkin are ordered to sign a peace treaty and pay reparations by Cimbar. Mordulkin ignores the order and attacks Luthcheq. Cimbar and Luthcheq ally against Mordulkin. 1119 DR: Year of the Sharn Suitors: Akanax and Soorenar join in the war, defying Cimbar but not as an ally of Mordulkin. 1121 DR: Year of the Shameful Plea: Mourktar invades eastern Chessenta. The war is swiftly abandoned as Mordulkin ceases hostilities with Luthcheq, and Cimbar and Akanax are unwilling to battle one another directly. Cimbar, Akanax, and Mordulkin all claim victory in the war and the title of Overking. (Old Empires pg 57 says Cimbar, Akanax, and Mordulkin all claim the title of Overking). c. 1150 DR Two centuries ago Rodanar was a large city, but a war against Akanax destroyed it, and the small town that was rebuilt on the site is a vassal of Akanax. c. 1150 DR Chondath regains power, lending its considerable mercenary power to foreign conflicts, most noticeably the internal struggle in Chessenta. 1150 DR By the mid 1100s, Chondath regained the city-state of Hlath that had been lost during the Rotting War. Once again, it controlled the lower half of the Reach. Instead of spreading out through military might, Chondath decided to lend its strength to foreign conflicts, most noticeably the internal struggle in Chessenta. All at a cost, of course 1151 DR: Year of the Molten Man: Chondath besieges Reth and Hlath. Airspur is left to defend the western border of Chessenta without aid from Cimbar. (Vilhon Reach pg 12 states that Hlath had rejoined Chondath by the mid-1100s) 1152 DR: Year of the Portentious Waters: Akanax vs Cimbar War: Akanax attempts to seize the title of Overking by attacking Cimbar. The war is a stalemate for 2 years until Soorenar joins on the side of Akanax. 1153 DR: Year of the Remembering Stones: Luthcheq vs Mordulkin War 2: Luthcheq attacks Mordulkin seeking to take revenge upon its trade rival while Cimbar; its ally, is distracted with the war against Akanax. (In order for Luthcheq to be unable to aid its ally Cimbar, it is necessary for it to be involved in another war with Mordulkin). Orcs of the Flaming Spike tribe attack both Chondathan and Airspur forces in the Pass of Reth. Chondath ultimately annexes Hlath but is unable to complete the conquest of Reth. Airspur enslaves many orcs in the conflict and brings them back to work the fields. (Old Empires pg 51 states that Chessenta has initiated most conflicts with the orcs of the Flaming Spike tribe, but the orcs are more aggressive in Chondath. Airspur also has a high half orc population). 1154 DR: Year of the Sun Underground: Soorenar joins Akanax in the war between Akanax and Cimbar, the city of Rodanar is destroyed and Luthcheq is unable to assist its ally due to its war with Mordulkin. (Old Empires pg 57 lists Luthcheq and Cimbar as enemies despite never having attacked one another in a major war, this enmity could result from a failure to aid an ally. Old Empires pg 54 states the city of Rodanar was destroyed in a war against Akanax two centuries ago). Siege of Cimbar by the Lords of Akanax and Soorenar. The king is unable to get assistance from his allies and is forced to sign a pact imposing harsh limits on his power. Akanax refuses to sign, recognizing its lord as the true king. 1155 DR: Year of the Tyrant’s Lament: Airspur vs Cimbar War 1: Airspur attacks Cimbar due to Cimbar’s weakened state and the loss of Hlath which Airspur blamed upon Cimbar (Old Empires pg 4 states there were 2 Airspur vs Cimbar wars) 1156 DR: Year of the Winged Gift: The war escalates as Soorenar sides with Airspur and Maerduuth sides with Cimbar. Akanax attacks Soorenar and Luthcheq attacks Akanax. 1157 DR: Mordulkin attacks Luthcheq causing that city to drop out of the escalating civil war. 1160 DR: Year of the Swimming Lass: Airspur is forced to abandon the attack on Cimbar by Reth, Hlath, and Nun allying together and amassing forces in the Pass of Reth. 1161 DR Year of the Quiet Earth: The Airspur vs Cimbar finally ends when popular uprisings occur across Chessenta resulting in the overthrow of Luthcheq’s rulers. Before 1161 DR The city of Mordulkin has been Luthcheq’s major enemy on the trade routes and on the battlefields, and there is a good deal of enmity between the two cities that predates the rise of the Karanoks in Luthcheq. 1161 DR The Kurunak clan become the Lords of Luthcheq under suspicious circumstances. 1161 DR Year of the Quiet Earth In Chessenta, the Karanok Clan takes over as the Lords of Luthcheq under suspicious circumstances. Although all records of the events have been destroyed, it is likely that assassination was involved, since no known descendants of the old noble family survive today c. 1310 DR Maerduuth was once a large city, until it was nearly totally destroyed in a war against Akanax 50 years ago. 1311 DR Year of the Fist Rezim becomes vizier of Mulhorand. He begins to persecute the church of Anhur. Chessentan mercenaries replace Anhur worshipers as guards of the city. 1315 DR: Year of Spilled Blood: Maerduuth sends 2 expeditionary forces to conquer nearby Oslin. The Chessmen of Ultham-Urre destroy both expeditions and Oslin is left alone for several decades. (Volos Guide to All Things Magical pg 97 mentions Maerduuth attacked Oslin twice and its forces were annihilated by the Chessmen of Ultham Urre). Akanax vs Luthcheq War: Seeking to control the fertile Akanul, Akanax attacks a weakened Maerduuth, which is aided by the nearby city of Luthcheq, with Airspur providing aid after Maerduuth is subjugated. The war lasts for 2 years until the Great Plague brings hostilities to an end. (Old Empires pg 54 states Maerduuth was once a large city destroyed by Akanax 50 years ago, it would be weakened by the loss of forces against Oslin and vulnerable to attack by Akanax. Old Empires pg 4 mentions a war between Akanax and Luthcheq which would likely not stand by while Akanax expanded its territory). 1317 DR Great Plague of the Inner Sea begins. Chessenta is decimated, Unther suffers, but Mulhorand is largely unaffected. 1322 DR Year of Lurking Death Alasklerbanbastos [1018, 1365], the Great Bone Wyrm, emerges from the Riders of the Sky and begins a summer-long reign of terror in Chessenta. 1323 DR Great Plague ends 1324 DR: Mordulkin vs Luthcheq War 3: Luthcheq invades Mordulkin to take advantage of heavy losses in the plague years. Luthcheq loses war; losses are blamed on wizard-spies in the service of Mordulkin. Luthcheq begins persecution of wizards. c.1342 DR: The Overking’s army marches 1346 DR: Year of the Bloodbird: Akanax’s ruler declares himself Overking and marches on Oslin, subjugating the settlement within a month. (The Shadowstone chapter 5 mentions Kestrel served in the Overking’s army 20 years ago from 1365 ish. Volos Guide to All Things Magical pg 97 says that Oslin was left alone for several decades after the attack by Maerduuth but it is now listed as subjugated by Akanax in Old Empires pg 57) Akanax vs Soorenar War: Soorenar attacks Akanax, seeking to limit the expansion of its militaristic neighbour and occupy the fertile lands of the Akanul. Airspur joins its ally, but several mercenary companies are lost near the Adder Swamp. (Old Empires pg 52 mentions many wars have been fought over the Akanul and access to its crops. Polyhedron 108 mentions werecrocodiles are behind the disappearances of mercenary companies of the Airspur-Soorenar Alliance in the war against Akanax.) c. 1346 DR Sometime around 1346 DR, a particularly large sphere of annihilation appeared in the largest mansion of House Karanok. The sphere materialized in the middle of a torture chamber and completely consumed the wizard who was being tortured. Seeing this as an omen, the members of the house fell to their knees and worshiped the planar anomaly, which they called Entropy. Remodeling their mansion to make its current location a main temple chamber, the Karanoks blindly worshiped their nondeity in the belief that it would help them meet their goals. 1347 DR: Year of the Bright Blade: Akanax vs Soorenar War Ends: Luthcheq joins the war against Akanax and together they defeat and occupy Akanax. (Old Empires pg 57 mentions that Akanax lost a recent war against Soorenar. Old Empires pg 54 states that much of the city of Akanax was destroyed ten years ago in a war with Soorenar). 1350 DR: Morieth’s Revolt: Stiche Morieth leads a revolt against Lord Raedel. It is swiftly ended by King Gereax of Oslin. Stiche and most of the ringleaders are executed.
