I'm also looking at this book on Drivethru. Can I get this, the 2e book, and Volo's Guide? How does this book compare with the other two? Should I get all three?

I'm not setting my present Realms campaign in Waterdeep, although I might run a campaign in Waterdeep in the future. Not expecting Eric to chime in, although I'd like to get opinions from other scribes who have all three books on Waterdeep. I just had a thought, Undermountain is set in Waterdeep.

But I wonder how other people who set their campaigns in Waterdeep think about this fantasy city. Oh, can I still make it my own once I set a campaign there?

Some of the info from the 2E boxed set is repeated, but there is new information in there. I'd say it's worth getting.

The 3E Waterdeep book purposefully tries to cover some things not previously covered in the 2E box set, while still being a general Waterdeep book. I think the combo of the box set (which summarizes Volo's) and the 3E book give you everything you need.

As for Volo's Guide to Waterdeep, it is one of my fave Realms sources, period. It's the one that flipped me from being a casual enthusiast to a Realms junkie. It gives an on-the-ground feel of the city that no other sourcebook matches.

So I take that as a recommended book instead of passing on it. Okay. It must be really good if it turned you into a dedicated Forgotten Realms fan, Wooly.

You know, it still amazes me just how much stuff was released back in 2e that A) I didn't have the money to buy back then and B) I wouldn't have had time to read it either. To this day, there's so many old resources that I've barely had the time to flip through, but I have them now in one form or other to reference when I want to research a topic (a lot of them came when wizards released the free PDFs at one point just before 3e came out). Like I've never actually READ the menzo boxed set, and most of what I know came from the novels, but I've occasionally referenced it when looking into something when the FR wiki leads me down a path.

Alavairthae, may your skill prevail
