I'm running this module now on a PBP on Paizo's forums set in Greyhawk. I acquired the module in electronic form last year (which is why I'm running it). I'd like to run it in the Realms some time.

Any advice on where to set it? I'd like to set it in the South of Faerun. Some place where the winters are softer. I don't want to set it in the Mere of Dead Men.

You can also maker her a 'younger' naga and thereby weaker, but with a strong ability to charm others (maybe that power 'matured' early).

That's the thing with older modules, they expected groups to play cautiously/sensibly as the game was deadly. Today, players expect to overcome every challenge or, at least, have a reasonable chance to do so. I don't think this is a bad thing, but there's something to be said about not everything being solved through spell and sword.

That said, I'd seed at least 3 different things into the game to make slaying the naga possible. Some one-shot items that might make it easier to beat. I say one-shot items so as not to give the group too many powerful/permanent items early in their careers. An arrow of naga slaying, a high level spell scroll, maybe a scroll of protection vs. whatever powers the naga might bring to bear against the party, etc.

Sorry about getting to this late, but . . . I have a conversion document ready. I got it from a fellow DM.

What are you doing about the Naga the end? In 3.x their charm is not permanent as it is in 1e, which is kind of the whole point of the Naga in the module. Further, they are CR9, investable by low level characters. Will you have the old wizard step in to take it out?

Maybe. Sounds like Deus Ex Machina, though.

It is, but it’s what the module expects as written unfortunately.

So, Tomb of Annihilation is basically a composite of Dwellers of the Forbidden City and Tomb of Horrors. I'd set Cult of the Reptile God in the Mhair Jungle just to spread it out a bit.

I1 Dwellers of the Forbidden City would work perfectly in Chult. It's set in a jungle area (originally Hepmonaland in the World of Greyhawk). I1 introduced the yuan-ti. Yeah, I also have the Vilhon Reach accessory for 2e and Serpent Kingdoms for 3e, so I'm aware that Hlondeth is a stronghold for the Yuan-ti, but the Jungles of Chult could have a number of them.

Perhaps I can string both together. Orlane could be a Chondathian outpost in Chult. (I also have the Jungles of Chult FR sourcebook). Other than the pterra-men (pterrafolk) of Chult, it's possible to put a stronghold of Yuan-ti (the forbidden city) in Chult. Chult's big enough (FR is plenty big). Just need to brainstorm an adventure that will take the players from 3rd level to 5th level, so that they could be ready to brave the Forbidden City.

How about Chult? The Reptile God is perhaps an alias of Sseth.
