Hey, I've been sifting up and down and I can't seem to find the source for the "Younger" spell in Wizard's Spell Compendium Volume IV (1998, 2e).

I remain extremely curious as to where it first showed up, but I'm not sure how to find it. It's not Dragon, Dungeon, Polyhedron or Imagine (those are labeled), it's not marked as invoking any of the settings, and its name makes it nigh-impossible to google.

Any ideas of how to find its original source, before it was picked up for the Compendium?

Thank you kindly!

Yeah. I must've had the mother of all brainfarts there, sorry.

Yep - there it is. Well done. Good find.

Masked Mage, all spells from Dragon, Dungeon, Polyhedron and even Imagine are labeled as such in the compendium.
This likely isn't amongst them, or it would presumably have been labeled as such.

Some clues are generally left, too, but all it says is that it is a very rare spell. The only thing that seems to compare is Enhance Ability, which also showed no source, claiming only "very rare", but I found it in Legends and Lore (AD&D 2e version) as Enhance.

"Youth", from the next page comes from Dragon 114 - its the witch one. This is not the one... I will have to look to see if I can find it, but I'm guessing either 1st edition or regular D&D (non-advanced).

There are similar "youth" spells in several older dragon magazines as well. Its not those.

I see. I hadn't thought the product may have been shelved; thanks for the datum.

I guess I better assume as much... it's been quite long and I've made no progress.

There is a witch kit in the 2E PHBR4: Complete Wizard's Handbook. It doesn't describe any custom witch spells, the focus is basically thematic fluff and special potion brewing rules.

No idea, but it's possible (though I'm not saying it was) that it was a product that never saw print too. They included a number of spells and magic items in those compendiums and encyclopedia from products that got shelved. That said, it references witches (though I double checked and its not from either 1e/2E era witch npc in Dragon), so where else did the witch appear in 2E?
