Nope, the novel doesn't offer an explanation for that. It doesn't offer an explanation for many things.

The daemonfey (from what I think) would not hesitate to butcher the drow nearby for afterall their ancestry includes surface elves and surface elves are known for their hatred against drow, the daemonfey would likely adopt "kill first, talk later" policy against even the drow.
-Now that the Last Mythal Trilogy is over, this has changed quite a bit, though I don't want to say anything specific. |

Posted - 30 Nov 2005 : 13:10:50 The drow of House Jaelre are planning, scheming, hoping to reclaim the former elf lands, they would claim Myth Drannor if they wish to as well. But they are more interested in the aging mythal over the city then bother much with the other folk in the nearby Dalelands unless there are goals to be achieved by expending these unwary folk lives or there is entertainment to be obtained from doing so.
Considering the latest events in the realms, with the daemonfey and their unwilling host of demons and devils colonizing the ruins and some parts outside the ruined city, I think the drow would just go underground than face the new occupants of the city especially when they are easily outmatched by the occupants in terms of magic, numbers, skill, and strategy. The daemonfey (from what I think) would not hesitate to butcher the drow nearby for afterall their ancestry includes surface elves and surface elves are known for their hatred against drow, the daemonfey would likely adopt "kill first, talk later" policy against even the drow. The Banites, Undead dragon lovers even if they were in possession of the ruined city would hardly endear themselves to ally with drow, for drow are famous for backstabbing and betrayals so even the briefest alliance will collapse in a few days thanks to some Matron orders or backstab in their allies, even drow hold themselves above all the surface races in their arrogance and contempt. Banites would more likely seek to "tyrannize" the drow as their religion dictates. The Undead Dracoliches are obsessed with the idea of world-domination by themselves undead dracoliches as Sammaster preaches, these dracoliches most likely see the drow as competing sneaky rivals seeking to get a shot at world domination and the undead wyrms will not tolerate any rivals anyway, even the wyrms still believe themselves superior to the lesser races. |

Posted - 30 Nov 2005 : 09:50:43 All I know about this is what is already in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. It seems House Jaelre is colonizing the Elven Court, and being wisely cautious about Myth Drannor. They seem instead to be focussing on the Dalelands as an area into which to extend their influence.
Drow in general look down on pretty much anything else. So do Baneites and the Cult of the Dragon. I don't see these groups becoming friends anytime soon. They amy play at alliance, but only so far as each feels it is to their advantage. Evil does not cooperate well, unless there is plenty of room for personal advantage.
I do run a Cormanthor campaign, and the Drow are my chief antagonists, so I would also very much like to hear people's thoughts on the subject. |
