Well, what to say... guess I just start typing and, maybe, something sensible comes out in the end.
I'm a Realms fan. Longtime is a matter of perspective, but a decade does count for something, right? I also have this major problem that anything encyclopedia-like is a bane to me, I read sourcebooks just about as happily as I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled out.
So... the way I really discovered the Realms was (and still is) by reading novels. So, now that I got all this info jammed into my brain (well, that info and tons of other stuff!) and lots of stuff still hanging in orbit waiting to be jammed in my brain, the cynic in me says: if I were to play 4e Realms I could basically format that space in my brain cuz it won't be needed. Blank slate.
The thing is, I can't reformat parts of my brain... I tried everything, including massive amounts of ... substances. Short of ODing or doing something similarly stupid there is not much to avoid my brain keeping the memories. Aside from that searing pain I usually get when I think about everything past a certain date in GHotR...
Sure, the Realms are my Realms now, but being an obsessive compulsive I cannot stop wandering back to the nonsense wotzee cooked up and being rather... cross.
I wrote enough about that already, and it is not changing for the better. I'm not sure if I'll read Orc King and its sequels, the Drizzt stuff is kinda nice, but with all its implications on the future, a future I won't acknowledge with more than a snort and a shake of the head and some rude gestures, I ain't so sure about it. I will finish collectung the Thay series, mainly because I started buying it. Lady penitent is complete in my shelf, also unread as of now. But there is one thing I, in all likelihood, will not touch, which is anything dealing with the new era, if it can be called that.
Everything up to the Year of Blue Fire may contain stuff I can adapt. Everything, starting with Swordmage, is of no concern to me for it is so far in the (to me nonexistant future) that I won't even bother.
I'm very cross indeed...

Well I saw a documentary some time ago with a Professor in the USA (I think) and he was able to "change" the brain of some volunteers to acquire an "Inselbegabung" (sorry ... no idea about an english translation) - mild form of autism like "Rain Man". This seemed to work, but only for 15 minutes. The process wasnt free of pain either and looked a bit uncomfortable, but if youre desperate .... 
(Maybe he can fuss around with your memory too.) |

Lucky you... (or, perhaps, lucky *me* ;)) I have about a 1000 books I should read ASAP because of my work -- most of them finnish prose, nonetheless. FR novels? Fantasy fiction? Naah... that's popular literature and not high literature, and therefore not "required reading" for a librarian! ;)
I wonder what my excuse is. I am not a librarian and I seem to be nearing the same amount. Its difficult to not buy books when they are there in front of you. Maybe compulsive collector is the right word. |

Hmm perhaps you have an obsessive compulsive behavior of aquiring books you do not have time to read? *wink*
That said I read 11 of the Wizard of OZ series in two days (at the time I had little elae I could do except walk on crutches) and likely could find spare time to read all of your unread books in 60 to 90 days if they are of moderate lenght (250 pages or less) *Grin*
IIRC _A Crown of Swords_ took me about 3 days however that was not a moderate book. Maybe I just like reading a lot and have enough spare time? |

Like me, I think you have finally just grown numb. I really don't think anything WotC does or says anymore could possibly surprise me at this point.  |

Anyway, I'd say that if you are still upset over the 4E changes (rather than being at the point where you are cooly indifferent about them), then you probably wouldn't be doing yourself any favors by reading novels in the LP series, Thay series, or even the Transitions series (The Orc King).
I'll read Lady Penitent and Thay because I bought them and do like Lisa Smedman's and Paul Kemp's styles. I haven't bought Orc King, so I won't bother. Even if I do not like the implications on my Realms, I'm quite sure the books are a good read.
The Thay ones are by Richard Lee Byers. The Twilight War is by Kemp. =)
