Hi,

I was just re-reading the Elfshadow novel wherein Elaith started up a new tavern on Snake Alley. In the novel Snake Alley was in Dock Ward, but reading the City of Splendors boxed set, I found out that Snake Alley is in fact in South Ward, Adventurers' Quarter.

Are there two Snake Alleys? Did Elaine Cunningham originally create Snake Alley, and Steven Schend didn't know this when he created the Adventurers' Quarter (and another Snake Ally in it)? Is my novel translated poorly?

PS. I noticed, in the FRCS it's Elaith Craulnober but in the Elfshadow novel, it's Elaith Craulnobur. Which is right?

Mod Edit: Added the bit about an 'Elaith' query to the scroll's title

Thank you Sage! Here's hoping...

Elaine's scroll has been sealed, temporarily, at her request. Though, Elaine still does drop by Candlekeep occasionally to answer questions here and there.

Adding the 'Elaith' query to the scroll's title may help Elaine concentrate on which scrolls she can easily attend to...

Ah, so they are one and the same, afterall. Thank you very much for commenting on this. Much appreciated!

On Elaith: I might submit a query in Elaine's scroll. Thank you, Sage.

It's the same Snake Alley, and yes, it does take a bit of a "jog" whilst crossing The Way of the Dragon (though not quite as much on Ed's HUGE original maps as on the various published ones). A few lucky gamers out there have photocopies of Ed's originals, given out at convention contests. For everyone else: a typical city "tallhouse" on Ed's maps has a rectangular base large enough to tip one of the original Airfix military or model railway figurines on its side and place the figurine "inside" the building. In elder Realmsplay days, Ed used such figurines to collectively represent Watch patrols and the PC party. And yes, that meant Waterdeep could literally fill the floor of a large room.
love to all,

He's referenced as 'Elaith Craulnobur' in his first official appearance, in Ed's Waterdeep & the North. Elaine apparently continued that with Elfshadow, whereupon the spelling of his last name was altered slightly with Elfsong -- becoming 'Craulnober.'

Maybe Elaine can elaborate on this further...

I thought about that too, but I didn't think it'd be probable. Looking at the maps once more, it might, just might be possible that the alley continues after crossing the Way of the Dragon.

P.S. : I would say it's Elaith Craulnober
