So i'm looking for some background info.

Are there any lost orders of knights or fighters that are canon in Faerun?

Not necessarily just paladins and totally goodie two shoes, but including them.

Basically looking for something in the way of a relic from the last (found tome/family history etc etc) that links a character to one of these lost orders and can drive many side quests to revive them.

Obviously there are the current ones (Order of Red Falcon, Order of the Aster etc) but i'm looking for those that have been destroyed or petered out.

Any thought wise friends?

gold and glory (free down load on the wotc web site) has a whole chapter on retired mercenary companies, not quite knightly orders but with a few years and the rumor mill people might consider some of them just a romantic.

Since someone mentioned it... the Wizards downloads page

you know you really should just put that in your Sig

Nah, my sig is crowded enough as it is. I've never been a fan of the "my sig is longer than 3/4 of my posts!" school.

There are the Champions of Light who were religious fighters and paladins of Selûne, and vanished after the Fall of Netheril. Some might have survived in Opus/Selûnarra, but the only reference to them is in the Netheril boxed set.

Err yes, that's what I meant, Dungeon magazine .

And it happens to be a GREAT adventure with a lot of sweet Realmslore! (I have probably said this at least seven times on this forum)

Another great module is Eric's Eye of Myrkul in Dungeon #73, and it has some of the finest Realmslore published so far.

Depends how far back you want to look.
The Netheril supplement lists the following orders of knighthood for Selune: The Swords of the Lady (also known as the Lunatics), the Silver Path and the Guardians of Light.
Tyche also has the Honour Guard of Fate.

There's the Knights of the Crescent Moon, who featured in Eric L. Boy's "Sleep of Ages" adventure in an old issue of Dragon Magazine. (They are a distinct but possibly distantly related group to the Order of the Crescent Moon, mentioned in Champsion of Valor.) An adventure taking up the end of the Eric's adventure, with the reawakened human and dwarf clerics and paladins trying to re-integrate themselves into modern Tethyr could be very interesting, especially if you throw the Knights of the Black Gauntlet into the mix.

Then there are various dissipated or dormant orders and societies connected to dead gods, such as the Syndicate of Celestial and Righteous Lawmakers, who worshipped Amauntor. On a darker note, there's the Brethren of the Keen Strike, who were a particularly fanatical Bhaalist cult.
