Hey, I just went over the bit in LEoF about Athlanatar, and in it it says that Undarl slew Elminster's parents.

Does this mean that Uthgrael Aumar the former king was not Elminsters father, or did they pull a hide the special baby plot hook on old Undarl?

Thanks for the help guys. LEoF mentions the Malaungrym connection.

I have what I think is kind of a cool plot hook, I am going to have the PCs find Uthgrael's ghost deep in the mountains where he was slain by the orcs. He is going to say find my son and heir, so I may give him my blessing. I'm putting it in the Grayvale, maybe the high moor. The pcs are new to the area and are first of all going to be surprised that there hasn't been an Athlanatar for over a thousand years, then they need to find the heir. The ghost knows one of his sons still lives since he is trapped in the valley. Its going to take the PCs a while and alot of research to figure out the names of the sons of Uthgrael and then put it together with the famous mage of shadowdale.

Then they gotta travel to shadow dale, and talk to El, who of course thinks its some kind of red wizard etc... trap at first.

El suggests that Uthgrael give the blessing and holy relics of Athlanatar to the PCs who can then go about trying to re-establish the kingdom a little east of where it originally was, in the Greyvale.
After they convince El to go back to the vale with them,

Which is also referenced in Ed's "Athalantar" article.

Undarl was Malaug of the malaugrym. Or so rumour has it.

Uthgrael was Elthryn's father and El's grandfather.

Uthgrael had seven sons, of which Elthryn was fourth.

As I recall, Undarl wasn't a brother of Elthryn, as he's not listed amongst the children of Uthgrael Aumar and Syndrel Hornweather. It's said that no one knows where Undarl was born.

For more, see Ed's "Athalanatar" article in DRAGON #228.

Elthryn is Elminster's father. If I recall right, Elthryn is one of the brothers of Undarl, who did slay El's parents. It's right there in chapter one of Elminster: Making of a Mage.
