I was doing some research for my prospective running of City of the Spider Queen, and was thinking about adding the Spiral of Manzessine adventure from Dungeon 94. The problem is, in skimming both Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide to the Underdark and the 3rd edition Underdark, I couldn't find any reference to illithid cities in the Deep Wastes region, which would be the most logical location for an illithid city that would have established Manzessine.
I know that Underdark says that this region is sparesely populated (at least by civilized Underdark races) and is largely unexplored, but before I went off in my own direction with illithid settlements, I thought that I would check to make sure that I had not missed a reference to this region from somewhere.

Yeah, I've been reading through it and I can't find any references to the actual illithid community. I think they may have left if vague in case it wasn't used for a City of the Spider Queen tie in, but I still wanted to make sure that there wasn't some established lore to build on in that region. |

No, I don't think it did.
I'm going from memory here, but as I recall, the module just said that Manzessine Prison was founded "several decades ago by a powerful mind flayer nation."

Im pretty sure it says somewhere in the module which Mind Flayer city founded the Asylum |
