Posted - 01 Jul 2006 : 15:17:02 I seem to remeber in Realms of Elves Storm made a dish requiring fresh vipers or something. Yet another stomach turner. (I hate snakes!) Twould seem some people of the realms like it as unusual as possible. |

I've heard it mentioned that people in the North like horse meat.
In the Dark Elf Trilogy, House Do'urden halted a caravan of grey dwarves in their way and confiscated some crabs, which I believe were implied as a delicacy.
And in the early part of Daughter of the Drow, Liriel and a couple of companions go spear-fishing for pyrimo, a smallish fish of the Underdark's waterways.
(Pyrimo is a predator fish, incidentally, combining aspects of both pirahna and fugu: it's attracted to blood in the water, usually travels in mass schools which can strip a corpse to naught but bone in moments during a 'feeding frenzy', and its flesh is poisonous to most humanoids if improperly prepared. In other words, it's an almost quintessentially drow delicacy. ) |

Read some of Greenwood's books. I was getting near the end of Cloak of Shadows when a person pulled out a tombworm platter with some wine drenched brains of something and snail meat.
I think that was one of the Malaugrym though. No doubt they have strange tastes.
Not that I haven't seem some strange (by my standards) meals eaten by humans in some books. |
