Posted - 22 Jun 2006 : 16:38:34 Greetings,
This question may end up having to be asked of Ed, but I thought I would put it here first.
How would someone in the Realms go about reclaiming a heraldic device that was used by an ancestor? This is something that has been lurking in the back of my head for a while now, and when I posted about Aravilor, it came back to me.
Some background:In that campaign, one of the clues that the PC found (originally from Oerth, and transported to Faerun because of a magical mishap), was a crest in the Herald's Holdfast that was identical to his family crest on Oerth. When the PC questioned one of the mages there, he was given the family name, Ardwinor. He has done further research about the family, and has come to the conclusion that he is a decendant.
So, if he decides that he would like to be able to use the device, what would he have to do to get the permission of the Heralds? I have read through the Heralds section in Power of Faerun, and plan to read through that again, but was hoping that those of you who are more versed in lore could give me some help.

Posted - 22 Jun 2006 : 17:28:52 I'd check Ed's September 3rd, 2005 reply about elven heraldry. His March 19th, 2004 replies about nobles and the Heralds.
The 2004 replies and Power should pretty much help answer your questions, I think. :) If not, then we'll try to help some more. |
