Posted - 26 May 2006 : 07:06:02 I was researching information for a campaign I am running and I came across some notations in the timelines regarding the Angardt barbarian tribe. This sparked my curiousity, and I've been combing my sources looking for more information, but I've only found a few comments in Netheril and How The Mighty Have Fallen.
Specifically, I'm looking for more specific information on where they were located. I surmise that they were located around Moander's Footstep, and that in modern-cartographic terms that should place them somewhere north and west of Daggerdale...right?
I unfortunately don't have access to any good Netherese-era maps to compare geographical features.
I'm tempted to draw the obvious linguistic parallels between the Angardt and the Uthgardt, but Races of Faerun states that Uthgar was from Rauthym, and only linked up with the barbaric Netherese tribes once driven from Netherese Illusk - the fact that the text makes a distinction between them indicates that they are not the same ethnic grouping. I could see definitely intermingling...
I've found text in Races of Faerun indicating that the Angardt have evolved into the barbarians of the Ride. Hrm. That doesn't quite track with what I was interpreting in Netheril. I suppose if the Rengarth drove them out of southern Netheril, it could work...
Any thoughts? Comments? Am I totally off base here? |

Eric told us that the Ride barbarians should be descended from the Rengarth, and the barbarians of the Tunlands descended from the Angardt.
That actually makes a lot more sense when you look upon where each group was based in the Netheril boxed set.
Thankee-sai. That makes much more sense. I was staring at the .pdf map from How The Mighty Have Fallen and wondering if my sense of scale was really that far off...
The Netherese barbarians split after the Amgardt began developing sorcery. The split turned deadly when the Rengarth began killing off Angardt to purify the tribes. The Angardt eventually settled in the Flats and founded Kismet. This would put their ancestral lands in The Saiyaddar between Evereska and the Scimitar Spires...which was an area of importance when the phaerimm marched on Evereska, correct?
I love the Realms. Just asking this one question cemented nine concepts into my head and just created another six lines of inquiry...
