In the book the Temptation of Elminster, there are 2 things that got me asking: when Mystra is off on vacation and Azuth is watching over El, at that time was El Azuth's Magister? and from what i no Azuth was Mystra's Magister who got bumped up to Godhood because Mystra needed somebody to watch over the magic users for her role was the weave itself, well my question is when Azuth was a mortal(of obvious great power to be made a god) was he like a lvl 50 wizard and could beat the snot out of Larloch and Elminster with one hand tied behind his back? anyhow there probably stupid questions but if one could take his or her time to please fill me in on my query!

Secrets of the Magister touches on this just a little as well. I suggest you also read through the history sections of that tome.

Elminster was never the Magister. If you read the text closely, Azuth talks about "his pet project" (i.e. the Magisters), and notes that Elminster should be burning with curiousity about them. Interesting to think that Elminster, in the 700s DR, some 500 years after being made Chosen, doesn't know about the Magisters which have been around longer than he has ... very interesting indeed.

This will forever remain one of the mysteries of the universe that contain Abeir-Toril. I doubt anyone will ever detail Azuth as a mortal unless they make a time travel module. Suffice it to say, he was very powerful.... and that's what he should be remembered for.
