Excepting those cities that have been extensively mapped, detailed and populated (such as Waterdeep, Skullport and Silverymoon), I'm looking around for as much information as I can find from legitimate sources on any of the other cities across (including above and under)the face of Toril.
What I'm trying to achieve is to build a database of information for setting some of my campaigns in more obscure locations (I'm looking at Chessenta at the moment) and I am seriously lacking information on the cities from which to launch the party. I have all of the 3.5 versions of the realms books, none of the novels and nothing that's 2nd edition or earlier. Are there any websites or older canon documents/adventures that would be suitable for me to download information to use and expand upon.
Any guidance would be gratefully received.

Outside Chessenta, city information is scattered through hundreds of sourcebooks, novels and articles, so other than general hints -- FRA covers a good sampling of towns and cities, the Volo's Guides are the best sources on their respective regions -- it's hard to give a detailed answer to such a general question. |

Thank y'all very much - I'll be chasing that information up as soon as I can (I have acquired the Forgotten Realms Adventures book already, along with a number of PDFs and Dragon magazine #334 is inbound - I just need to acquire FR10!).
If anyone uncovers anything else, I would be most appreciative!

Sidslick, another resource you might want to keep your eye on is Ed's Cities of the Realms articles occuring in DRAGON -- the first of which, the city of Crimmor, began in #334. Released infrequently (The Hooded One will likely prompt us about an new upcoming article) they feature lore on one particular city of the Realms each issue.

Just checking . . . FR10 Old Empires includes city maps of Skuld in Mulhorand and Luthcheq in Chessenta. |

Its definately worth buying that PDF. I have used the city maps and keys I don't know how many times, and its much easier than taking an old copy across the street to photocopy a page. Ah the wonders of the computer age! |

Indeed. It's only a two-page description for each city (and that includes the map), but it's a nice start.
I see Forgotten Realms Adventures pop up on eBay quite often, and it usually goes for $10-$20. I also bought the pdf of it from Paizo yesterday ($4!), and a quick glance at it showed it to be of pretty good quality. |

The Computer aid FR ATLAS is also a very good supplement when it comes to detailing cities, large and small. |

If you're after information about Chessenta, you probably want to look in FR10 Old Empires. Off the top of my head, I can't remember what information about cities it has, but that has to be the principal source. You should be able to find it as a PDF ESD somewhere. (Anyone got a link?)

First of all, well met and welcome to candlekeep!
You won't find any city get quite as much attention as Waterdeep but the various regional sourcebooks can give you a pretty good idea about how things run. I know Silver Marches describes a bunch of cities.
If you don't have any of the 2nd edition stuff than I suggest you go to:

You can download a number of 2nd edition supplements for free. There are some pretty good regional descriptions in those tomes.
