I hope I'm not getting on anyone's nerves with my questions but there are so many things that I have always wanted to ask....
So, here goes...Unapproachable East aside, is there any other information on the Rotting Man or did he just pop out of the woodwork with the new sourcebook?

Also, is there in any realms product a mention of good (or even benevolent) undead other than the generic "yes, there are archliches and baelnorns around somewhere"...any specific names? Or even good necromancers?

*seriously thinks the new 3rd ed. "necromancy is totally evil" is quite...boring, along with kinda dumb*

Baelnorns and Archliches have been around since 1st Edition, just can't think of any specific references off-hand.

im not sure how you missed descriptions of baelnorns since practically every elven culture has tehm guarding tombs... all over teh high forest. etc. LEoF has quite a few.

Ouch. How could I forget Lady Alathene!!!

She was the "mentor and protector" of the character that I just mentioned above.

Ed wrote a short story for one of the older CRPGs that had a baelnorn in it. I believe it was called "Moonrise in Myth Drannor".

Alathene Moonstar (sometimes spelled Alathae), mentioned in Cloak & Dagger and written up in Volo's Guide to Waterdeep, is an archlich. She's also mentioned in Powers & Pantheons.

The Rotting Man is also in the Lady of Poison novel.

As for good aligned undead, there's always been different good aligned undead in FR. For example: Good aligned vampires (and no I'm not including Jander Sunstar since he's not specifically listed as good aligned, except for his tendencies), ghosts, lichs, etc.

There“s a baelnorn in an adventure in the Ruins of Myth Drannor boxed set.
IIRC, we have some scenes of Elminster and some baelnorn in Elminster in Myth Drannor and Elminster in Hell.
Again, IIRC, there is a netherese archlich in the Lost Empires of Faerūn (correct me if I“m wrong)

But I really interested in your question about the good necromancers. In the old days of the 2nd Edition, I played a white necromancer of the noble family Amcathra (Waterdeep), and remember very fondly of him. Now, due to lack of "good necromantic ammunition", I converted him to an abjurer/arcane devotee of Siamorphe

The Shadows of the Avatar trilogy actually introduces you to an archlich . . . and (sigh) the Return of the Archwizards book has a baelnorn in it, so those both go beyond just stating that they exist.
