I need of a little help here. One of my players want to play with a character that have the Bone template (from Book of Vile Darkness). There is a very good story for him to have this template, giving me some good and interesting ideas to plots and subplots in the campaign... but one problem is that this template, to me, is a little "unbalanced".
+4 in dex, some good imunities, claw attack, and no Level Adjustment? Is this correct, or my copy of the Book of Vile Darkness is adultered?

Posted - 04 Jan 2006 : 12:02:06 Wow, thanks Arivia, Warlocko and Sleyvas for the input!
Now, I“ll have to do some adjustments to balance the group, but this will be very interesting. The idea behing this "bone character" is that: a lawful good fighter/rogue profaned (acidentaly), a shrine of Kelemvor (I“m working yet in this "accident"). As a punishment, Kelemvor "cursed" the character, giving to her the bone template. And after this, Kelemvor agents have put her to run until the Silver Marches/High Forest region.
Now, the truth about it: Kelemvor see in this adventurer a great oportunity of gain an "agent" against the great undeads of Faerūn. Just give her a skeleton apearance, conduct her to err.. ahem... "acquire" some item that hide her alignment , and advice (in dreams and omens) that she will be cured only after she save Faerūn of some of this great evil undeads.
This will be interesting.
Thanks again. |

Posted - 30 Dec 2005 : 15:51:56 The LA is roughly +3. Small rules notes on the abilities in 3.5: Template: It's an acquired template. Hit Dice: The wording of this has been clarified in 3.5-look at the vampire for an example. Immunities: Half damage from piercing or slashing weapons becomes DR 5/bludgeoning. Feats: This line becomes "The base creature gains Weapon Finesse as a bonus feat." |

Posted - 30 Dec 2005 : 03:15:49 Beastiary of Krynn has the Skeleton Warrior template, which is the closest 3.5E template I can think of to that. |

Posted - 29 Dec 2005 : 22:18:37 I'd recommend comparing it to the other similar templates (skeleton, but that one doesn't allow the person any free will because their mindless... then I know there's one that gives just basic undead abilities in I think magic of faerun (for a Velsharite spell that "revives" people as undead... there should be an addendum to convert that to 3.5). |

You“re correct. BoVD is a 3.0 sourcebook. Anyway, I will wait for your help. The player really want to develop this... ahem... curse from his character, and I want to give a hand on this.

Posted - 28 Dec 2005 : 17:00:05 1) IIRC, the BoVD is 3.0, hence why there's no LA listed for the template. 2) I'll try and get back to you on this-I'm away from a copy of the BoVD right now. |
