Does Khelbans choice of Moonstars as the name for his new "Harperesque" group have anything to do with the Moonstar family that was involved with the the Church of Selune in Waterdeep
I thought of something interesting the Moonstars could be a group made up of followers of Selune and Mystra who oppsoe Shar, the Shadow Weave and Shade Enclave....... |

Ohhhh......I would have to agree here. While they share 40% of the same goals, they are not the same group. I mean, hello evil vampire and current uber crime lord of Riatavin as members? haha
Khelben is......selective..... in his hiring practices for sure.
The Moonstars I will give credit to in the sense that they are not a cult like the Harper's, the Emerald Enclave, etc. I mean, credit to Khelben for owning it. He had to ditch bad people before, and now he's like, "Whatever, let's get this done.", haha.
I don't mind Khelben as a character in the campaign setting. What I take umbrage with is that he is in some circles seen as a good guy. That dude is so very far from good. Granted, he isn't a demon or devil kind of evil, but he isn't a "good" guy by any means.
Best regards,

Besides, would the church of Selûne sanction the evil members of the Moonstars, particularly the two vampires?
Khelben's strategy with the Moonstars is highly unorthodox, at least, in comparison to the way the Harpers tend to operate. This would likely always be a point to contest whenever the Moonstars went fishing for support among the various good-aligned clergies.
As such, I wouldn't see the Moonstars having as much support as the Harpers do among the good-aligned churches of the Realms.

Indeed it was, part of the 'Faiths of Faerun' series.

At first, I thought perhaps that you may have been talking about the Selunite Moon Knight, as presented in Warriors and Priests of the Realms. But they don't really have a connection to Mystra.

Wasn’t it Eric L. Boyd who did that “unofficial” Moon Guards kit for 2ed rules? It was a cleric kit that had duel sponsorship from Selune and Mystra.
Are you talking about those elite fighters who represent the finest warriors among the Silverstars?
I can honestly claim ignorance here; I'm not that familiar with the Silverstars. I found that kit in a .pdf file I downloaded somewhere. It is called “Forgotten Realms Net Compendium 3rd Edition”. Ironically, it is 2ed rules. (I understand why, 3rd edition of compendium)

Posted - 05 Jun 2005 : 01:15:58 This doesn’t relate to the Moonstars, but the Selune - Mystra thing. Wasn’t it Eric L. Boyd who did that “unofficial” Moon Guards kit for 2ed rules? It was a cleric kit that had duel sponsorship from Selune and Mystra. ( I did a 3.X conversion of this kit, but that’s another story)
I’ve always had the feeling these two deities being close.

One would think that Mystra 2.0 and Selune would be quite chummy since the return of Shade and appearance of the Shadow weave.....The Enemy of my enemy is my friend
It would certainly make sense, Dargoth. Shar is an enemy of them both, and Midnight/Mystra is also closer in alignment to Selune than the 'original' Mystra.
Still, I do not seet that Selune or her clergy would ally with the Moonstars. Khelben does indeed use methods that they would hardly approve... |

I have never had to pay for a Microsoft patch, and I don't find XP to be buggy. And I hardly think this is the place to discuss it. |

Posted - 01 Jun 2005 : 04:14:25 True, true. This was just one reasoning that there is a possibility that the two groups are connected.
As for sanctioning vampires, sometimes you cannot let these issues get in the way. The best example would be Pavel and Brimstone in the Year of Rogue Dragons Trilogy. One is a priest of Lathander, the other is a vampiric dragon, but these two work fine together. |

I wouldn't be surprised if the Church of Selune and the Moonstars do have connections or an alliance with each other. After all, the largest of Selune's temples, the House of the Moon, is in Waterdeep and so is the leadership of the Tel'Teukiira.
Being in the same town is hardly a good basis for assuming a connection... There's a temple of Ghaunadar hidden under the Dock Ward, as I recall. That's in Waterdeep, along with the Moonstars' leadership...
We know that a sponsor of the Moonstars is connected to the House of the Moon. We know that *one* member of the Tel'Teukiira is prominent within the House of the Moon, though she's not a priestess. That's all we know. Until there is more to indicate a connection, I'm not assuming one is there.

I'm not thinking, however, that the Tel'Teukiira is all that connected to the church of Selûne. There isn't much of a connection mentioned in the group's write-up, and other than their connection to an archlich whose connected to the church, there's no real ties to Selûne's church that we can infer.
Indeed.
In addition, I don't particularly see the High Priests/Priestesses of the Selûnites being all that comfortable with every singular action that Khelben has allowed the Moonstars to undertake.

And with any luck, I'll have the book in hand in just a couple days. |

Posted - 31 May 2005 : 17:30:32 It says in Cloak & Dagger that Alathae Moonstar (sp?), the archlich proprietor of The Blushing Mermaid (I think it's that one; I'm away from my books at the moment), agreed to lend her name to Khelben's organization.
