Posted - 15 Jun 2004 : 06:25:40 Would anyone plz tell me what exactly did Shar do in Time of Trouble? I've checked the 2E book and found that she once pretended to be Selune. Some said the details of this event are in the DND comic, but I cant get the books here. Can anyone tell me more about it please? Thank you very much! |

Here is a great reference on that, with citations.

Indeed. And he didn't prove to be the best traveling companion... |

Posted - 16 Jun 2004 : 10:11:14 He mentioned this recently in his thread in the novel section. He basically explained that he had done an article in Dragon magazine about how a DM can fix problems with his or her campaign such as rules changes, introducting new rules, or getting rid of troublesome things from a campaign. His suggestion was a world-shaking event, such as a god war. When the change was made from 1st edition to 2nd edition, TSR decided to follow Ed's advice to explain the rules changes.

Ed did in one of his older Dragon articles, but TSR expanded on it and thus we got the Time of Troubles. |

Posted - 16 Jun 2004 : 07:34:27 Faiths and Avatars and Forgotten Realms Adventures are both pretty good sources for Times of Trouble information. Faiths and Avatars is pretty nice because it also goes over the shakedown of the Cyrinishad mess. Quite a few churches and deities were changed around 1368.

That rings some sorta vague bell. Thanks for providing that information.
Maybe there will be another piece of connected lore in the Waterdeep gaming product next year: Slayer of Ibrandul Prestige Class. |

Posted - 15 Jun 2004 : 08:21:30 The comic was the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons title. I don't recall the issue numbers, but the story arc was entitled "Phases of the Moon."
Briefly: Selūne was posing as Luna, a bartender in Waterdeep's Dock Ward. She'd been doing this for a while, before the Time of Troubles happened.
When the ToT happened, Shar came to Waterdeep. She posed as the avatar of Selūne. Luna fought Shar at first, but was captured and brainwashed by her. Eventually, her friends freed her and revealed that "Selūne" was an impostor. They battled again, and this time, the real Selūne won.

I'll check if I get the time. The first time I really paid attention to this fact was in the Tazi novel that was part of the Sembia series. |

Here's a question, what product/novel first established her killing of Ibrandul?

Selūne and Shar: Shar and Selūne fought another round of their age-old battle as mortals in Waterdeep. Shar also secretly slew Ibrandul beneath Waterdeep and stole his portfolio.

Posted - 15 Jun 2004 : 06:43:56 Thank you! I've heard of that Shar somehow "corrupted" Selune's followers in Waterdeep, and that she's finally beaten by Selune and heroes in the comic. I'm actually more interested in what happened in the comics, which I can't get... |
