Posted - 23 May 2004 : 20:26:21 Prompted by both the "House Durothil of Evermeet" and the "Perendra Raslemtar" threads, I was wondering if anyone here had any information on House Maerdrym they could share?
I have an NPC I have worked on for a while - Essthel Maerdrym, a lythari cleric of Eilistraee (a thread in the WotC forums concluded Eilistraee was the primary goddess of lythari before the Descent), who is the great-grandson of Yrneha Maerdrym of Myth Drannor. His grandfather (Yrneha's son) escaped Myth Drannor's fall and became a lythari to forget the waste. Anyway... I need more info on the Maerdryms to flesh him out and give him a family tree (which I plan to post on this site).
I have all the information from the Fall of Myth Drannor and Cormathyr, and I know of Arun Maerdrym and a certain son.
Specifically I am looking for any REALMS-L or novel references, and any information on the refernces Steven Schend gave me - hints in the Sea of Fallen Stars and a certain Lashyrr Maerdrym of the "Order of Numos"/"White Dukars".
Thank you. |

Here is a reasonably solid compilation of material on House Maerdrym:

Best regards,

Posted - 29 May 2004 : 10:58:33 Yes, I worked it out yesterday Faraer! You may beat me with a stupid stick, I deserve it!
Thanks for the confirmation on that being the only reference in SoFS. Mr. Schend sent me a red herring, the swine! |

It's fun, it's easy.
The reference Rupert posted is the only instance of 'Maerdrym(m)' in Sea of Fallen Stars. |

Posted - 28 May 2004 : 15:22:00 Okay, I just searched the REALMS-L archive, and turned up some errata, but nothing on Lashyrr Maerdrym.
Oh, and something I read makes me think I made one mistake. I think Lashyrr didn't found the Numosi (White Dukars), she's just the current head of the order. My bad. |

Surely someone has Sea of Fallen Stars?
I just flipped thru mine, and all I saw was one small reference. Lashyrr Maerdrymm founded the Order of Numos, the White Dukars. At the time of the book's printing, she's still around, as a LG baelnorn ef Du22.
Assumably, she's in Qatoris, where the school is. It's a hidden morkoth city, benevolent and not allied with the other morkoth in Serôs. From the map, it looks like it's 10-15 miles north of Altumbel in Aglarond. 'Tis also some 1600 feet below sea level
Dukars are a variant kind of wizard, using elven dualist magic (meaning they specialized in two schools of magic, and that was all they could cast).
White Dukars could cast Illusion/Phantasm and Necromancy spells, and the allowed alignments were N, CN, and LN.
The Dukar orders first rose in -7130 DR, quite some time ago.
If there's other references to Lashyrr in there, I didn't see them -- I was just doing a quick flip through.
That is really helpful! I had always wondered about Dualist wizards (I've now found the reference in Fall of Myth Drannor), and Lashyrr as a White Dukar makes perfect sense - there is a Maerdrym in Fall who specialised in Nec/Ill. Thanks so much Wooly. If you do get time, I'd love to hear if there is anything else about her.
Can anyone look through REALS-L? Please? |

Got a link to this thread or the information that was used to reach the conclusion? |
