Hi loremasters of the Realms!
I'm not finding a lot of lore about the Sunrise Mountains to the left of the Great Glacier. Am I missing something?

The content that we have which comes closest to the Sunrise Mountains you're referring to is the Monument of the Ancients adventure from Dungeon Magazine #170.

Unfortunately, this adventure only goes as far north as the Frozen Forest, which is still roughly 200 miles south west of the range, going by the Fonstad and Kauth maps from 2nd edition, or 150 miles on the Schley map from 5th edition. The famous Lazzaretti map from 3e doesn't even go that far north.

Thanks! Ok, so there is no official lore about these miscalled "Sunrise Mountains". They also appear on a map from The Great FR Atlas.https://ibb.co/GMtG8Wd

This is a question for Ed. I asked him on Discord but he is very busy going in conventions and I think I will never have an answer ^^

Alas, I will make my own lore. Thanks sleyvas for providing some inspirations.

There’s tidbits peppered in both ‘Spellbound’ and ‘Unapproachable East’ - and MarkusTay did some fanciful and neato homebrew lore on this region for his maps back in the early 3e days. The scrolls are here at Candlekeep. A search should reveal them!

I don't even find the reference that the wiki references saying that they're an alias of the Taurax mountains. I look at the map on great glacier and it shows Taurax Mountains. I search on a copy that I have from a TSR release from long ago for the word sunrise and it only shows a single entry and it's not about those mountains.

The only reference to them that I see to the sunrise mountains being in two spots is the 2e map from the campaign setting, and that does indeed show them where the Taurax Mountains are in the Great Glacier map. So, I'd say take it in one of two directions.

First idea, blame the cartographer for a messup

Second idea, take it and run with it.... someone created a mini sun here centuries ago... I mean this HAS now happened twice in the last century that someone created a local sun in Faerun. Maybe this is where people got the idea for the spell and the people did it because they couldn't deal with the months of darkness common to arctic areas, and as a result there's this hidden valley of warmness amongst the Taurax mountains..

Maybe some other idea like there's a "hidden city of light" that only phases in here during the morning hours. Its people are worshippers of Amaunator who are entrapped in some magical time freeze as a result of the fall of Netheril. People have managed to enter here over the years, but noone has managed to leave. Each day is somewhat like "groundhog day" where they repeat nearly the same thing every day, but only those who have recently entered the city realize this.

Hi! Thanks for your replies, both of you. I was referring to these mountains.

I'm not finding much about them anywhere.

Well the first Mountain range I see west of the Great Glacier is Galena Mountains.

Mostly known for its mines, it appears.

Not sure if this is mountains Marco Volo is referring to.
