Posted - 29 Nov 2023 : 21:47:51 According to Dragon magazine issue 151--published way back to 1989--every 1,000 years there is a conjunction between the Prime Material Plane and the 111th plane of the Abyss, and it is only during this time that the yuan-ti can brew the Black Broth that can ultimately transform people into yuan-ti of some kind. Is there any record of when in the Forgotten Realms chronology this conjunction has occurred? Is it described anywhere, and was there an incursion of yuan-ti into the Prime Material Plane as a result?

Looks like we have a plausible method for the creation of the yuan ti.

Laogzed the god the troglodytes comes to mind. I already mentioned Mershaulk. Sseth was associated with the sarrukh of Okoth, so my bad on the latter. |

The problem is that mammalian and reptilian crossbreed are impossible. You could argue that magic makes it possible, as per duhlarks animerge and things like that, but that isn't breeding that is magical creation.
The brew to create histaachi actually makes a human part reptilian.
Could it be that this article is somewhat correct in that the creation of the histaachi was the first step on the path to creating yuan ti.
The sarrukh changed the humans into histaachi, then bred then with reptilian humanoids, then used their transmutation powers to alter the form of these creatures until they had yuan ti that could breed true (along the way there were a few mistakes like the anathema).
This might explain why yuan ti have three potential forms when conceived, because the transformation magics are not (nor should they ever be) 100% stable. This is not something you see with other magically created races which is why I think the creation methods were more natural.
The abyss thing I'm not super fond of, because the only reptilian abyssal race I know of is the khaasta, and the sarrukh association with then comes via okoth (who did not have yuan ti).

Posted - 30 Nov 2023 : 00:50:56 The article is not Forgotten Realms-based. Mapping these events into DaleReckoning is not feasible. Furthermore, FR yuan-ti are creations of the sarrukh. This Black Broth concoction is said to create histachii, which are creations of the yuan-ti, not progenitors as the article claims. The god Sch'theraqpasstt is perhaps a guise of Sseth or Mershaulk. Yuan-ti are already natives to the Prime Material Plane |
