As most of you know, I'm slowly reading my way through most of the FR material that the Sage has, learning my way around a place as vast of the Realms.

The Sage allowed me to look over the slightly-more-used copy of his old greybox Forgotten Realms campaign set. Now, inside the 'Cyclopedia of the Realms' it mentioned an adventuring company called, "Halfling Inc." I've taken note of several other references to this company in other sourcebooks, but there's very little information at best.

Does anyone else know of a better source of information for this group?. Maybe you can provide a short summary here?

Master Rupert,

That is a really great point. I didn't even consider that, but your recall of the Knights of Myth Drannor really adds a lot of validity to that.

I still despise the name of course, but hey, what can ya do except nuke it in your own campaign? I haven't nuked it, but changed it to Halfling Mercantile Services. That sounds so much better, and the Durpari think it is fantastic!

Best regards,

I personally suspect that Halflings, Inc were, like the Knights of Myth Drannor, the name a group of real players chose for their characters, and that one of the writers of the OGB worked them into there. There's at least one reference to the group in the FOR1 Draconomicon, as well.

Great Reader Lord Rad,

I could not agree with you anymore. That is such a real world, Earth/American name. No fun with that, as it doesn't allow us to suspect disbelief. One of the larger mess ups in my opinion as it related to the United States, and there was no other way to cover that up. A definite fail.

Best regards,

Yes, I've read up on what little there is on The Four. They're the adventuring company that were expelled from Waterdeep by the Blackstaff himself. They were responsible for a series of Nobleman assassinations, as I recall.

Since we're on the subject of lesser known adventuring companies from the early days of the Realms, what ever happened to the 'Company of the Wolf'?.

Yeah, it's a shame that more game designers or authors don't comb through the Ol' Grey Box and run with some of the hooks that are strewn throughout. Steven Schend did that for Lands of Intrigue when he updated us on The Four. I think Halfling Inc. would make great minor protagonists in a novel and warrant a cameo at the very least. Any chance of fitting them in your Waterdeep novel, Ed and Elaine?

How about Halflings Ltd.? Halflings PLC? Halflings AG? Halflings GmbH?
Lady Kazandra Posted - 15 Apr 2004 : 13:20:41
Yes, I was aware of those. They were a part of the references that I mentioned earlier.

Unfortunately, those quotes did not contain nearly enough information on the adventuring group to work with .

I'm presuming you are also aware that there are (somewhat insignificant) references to Halflings Inc in FOR1 Draconomicon. No more than quotes by one of the members IIRC.

I was only aware of no other such halfing adventuring band other than the buckleswashers... and of course 'Big Ugly' a halfing crimelord(s) in.... I forget the city...

Yes, and the mysterious lady too as the Knights of Myth Drannor may well have run into them -- but I'd wait till the Waterdeep novel (draft?) is done.
Lady Kazandra Posted - 14 Apr 2004 : 15:44:09
That's what I feared.

Faraer, do you still think it would be worthwhile asking Ed?.
Faraer Posted - 14 Apr 2004 : 15:23:42
Cyclopedia of the Realms is the main source on 'em.
Lady Kazandra Posted - 14 Apr 2004 : 13:49:51
That's an interesting point Rad, I'd never really thought about the name in that context before.

Dargoth, by Definitive FR source, do you mean the 'Questions for Ed Greenwood' thread?.

You could always ask the Definitive FR source
