This is an account of the very first play session from the Home Realms game featuring the Company of Crazed Venturers
http://oracle.wizards.com/scripts/wa.exe?A2=ind0102B&L=REALMS-L&D=0&I=-3&m=27917&P=14918
However, my very first Company of Crazed Venturers play session involved a visit to UnderMountain, wherein a first-level fighter fell through a pit trap...(and via a magical gate which the magic item he was unwittingly carrying activated) into Laeral's lap, as she sat soaking in a large tub (what we moderns might call a 'hot tub') with her sister Alustriel, trading gossip about an upcoming MageFair! His subsequent, ah, 'skillful diplomacy' earned him a magical relocation THROUGH the nearest closed door, into the waiting hands of two rather surprised young-and-eager-male-magic-user apprentices, who were waiting for their turn in the tub. They mind-reamed him, jotted down the operation of the gate and relieved him of its magical trigger...and then (under Laeral's orders) teleported him right back into the Company's midst...naked, weaponless, dripping wet, and smelling strongly of Alustriel's forty-herbs bath mix! The funniest part of the play session was the complete refusal of the other players to believe his (stone-cold-truthful) account of what had happened to him. However, he got his revenge on them some years later, when the Company met formally with Laeral, and she winked and sweetly asked him to go and get the bath ready...

Oh, and we have this bit from the lovely Lady Hooded One, on Asper's time as a Lord:

And for about 30 years Ed worked for "Nipple" (that is, NYPL, or North York Public Library). A library system that can and has been called many things, but seldom "tawdry." However, back to the Realms . . . Wooly, Asper's Lordship WAS a brief one. She was made a Lord in place of someone ailing, to try to track down a traitor within the ranks of the Lords (this was a storyline/subplot in Ed's home Realms campaign that almost made it into printed Realmslore early on, that we called, "Who Is Killing the Lords of Waterdeep?" vice "Who Is Killing The Great Chefs of Europe?"), and managed to hunt down and kill the guilty lord, but in so doing grew to loathe many of the sitting Lords [who in turn loathed her], and she decided to remain a Lord so as to have the powers and privileges and be able to step in and deal with future traitors and misbehaving Lords, but to stay quiet and low-profile. This suited the rest of the Lords just fine; aside from Mirt and his personal friends within the Lords, who remained Asper's friend, the rest of the Lords just ignored her. Some of them referred to her as "the Sword At Our Back" or "the Lurking Sword," so if you run across those phrases in Realmslore, that's who's meant. Published rosters of the Lords are notoriously incomplete and inaccurate, so the lone mention means little. I know of three NPCs widely (and correctly) suspected around the city of being Lords, who have never been mentioned in published Realmslore as belonging to the Lords. This is fine, BTW; it gives individual DMs more leeway in playing "who's a Lord/who's not" games in their own campaigns. love, THO
Why thank you Wooly, anything from THO is definitely worth putting up on this lore of Waterdeep scroll! Thank you again. |

Danilo Thann Terresk Sarya Lord bronson and Lady jeryth Phaulkon Jannaxil Serpentil
Danilo Thann stepped down from his Lordship. He asked to be replaced with someone who would champion Waterdeep's elves, and was replaced with Kyriani Agrivar. I like Kyri as a Lord, but she does not seem a logical choice -- she is a half-elf, and from Elaine's writings, we see that some elves will accept humans more readily than half-elves. On top of that, Kyri has lived with elves, but never really showed any interested in elven concerns. That's part of why I made one of my own Lords be the one concerned with elves, and made him an Elf-friend and an agent of Amlaruil.
I have no idea who Terresk, Sarya, and Lord Bronson are. If they are Lords in 4E, I would not be familiar with them.
Lady Jeryth Phaulkon was, as I recall, a Chosen of Mielikki and someone who went missing from the city -- I don't recall her being a Lord.
And I don't recall anything naming Jannaxil Serpentil as a Lord, either.

Well, without getting into surrounding awesome places like Skullport and Undermountain..... The Lords of Waterdeep are usually anonymous. Wearing those helms that change their voices. Has a great underworld, which is quite free of thief and assassin guilds unlike most big cities, partially due to some of the big players liking it the way it is. Elaith Craulnober for one :)
Gurk. It might be easier to name some names and point to wikipedia. Ill keep going off track forever lol.
