Demzer	Posted - 25 Aug 2013 : 11:25:54 Who or what is this guy/gal/thing? When did he come to the Realms? From where? To do what? Is there any detail on Zehir's interactions with the deities already established in the faerunian pantheon? Aside from NWN2: Storm of Zehir did he/she/it appear anywhere else in games, sourcebooks, novels? Did Zehir feature prominently in 4th Ed Realms lore? Thanks for any insight you fellow scribes may give on the matter.

Markustay	Posted - 26 Aug 2013 : 12:51:34 If 5e turns out to be the 'soft reset' I think it is, then Zehir should be going bye-bye anyway. If Ao is resetting the pantheon to an earlier time (and all indications say he is), then thats what should happen. Gods can NOT interlope without his permission, and now that he is back (or just taking charge again), there is no reason why he would allow deities who snuck-in during his 'downtime' to stay.

Beside, an interloper deity claiming for himself venom, serpents, poisoners and having an interest in Chult through the yuan-ti will probably just go POOF before even introducing himself to the pantheon having clashing interests with Cyric, Talona, Shar, Set and Tiamat.
Markustay	Posted - 26 Aug 2013 : 02:30:50 Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the concept of Zehir itself - its just that it totally went against one of their primary (4e) design goals. As for me, I use ALL the gods - FR (new & old), Golarion, Greyhawk, etc... they are all the same group with many aliases, as far as I'm concerned (although the normal people of the setting - and therefor my players - aren't necessarily aware of "who's who" when it comes to this sort of thing). Since I am not using Set (as in, the name itself), simply because I don't want RW names, 'Zehir' makes a fine replacement for him in my 'old gods' (old empires) pantheon(s). I am still not sure how to connect Zehir to Asmodeuas, if at all. My thoughts tend to lead me to believe a Set/Zehir/Scaly god should be more primordial then an anthropomorphic deity (such as Asmodeus). My main problem therein lies in the conflicting lore surrounding Asmodeus between 2e and 4e (because in 2e, he was an aspect of Ahriman, who was indeed an very primordial power), and the 3e concept that he was a fallen-angel-made-out-well (which I would rather assign to someone like Lucifer, which D&D doesn't use). 4e seems to have gone back to a sort of proto-god concept for him, and gave him back his uber-mojo. I could just dump both of them in an early draconic pantheon.... {insert scratching head smiley}

Personally, I really enjoyed the depiction of Zehir in "Venom in her Veins". Set is probably dead, with Mulhorand being obliterated. Sseth has done nothing in forever. The yuanti are awesome, but they are small players in FR. They need a bold god who will reinvigorate the race, and lead them to turn the chaos wrought by the Sundering to their advantage.

So that how FR got its umpteenth 'scaly god', despite all the effort the 4e team put into eliminating 'unnecessary redundancy'. And if you consider that one of Asmodeus' most popular psuedonyms is 'the serpent', one can even say we got TWO more 'scaly gods' in 4e.
