What can stop the silver fire of the chosen from killing their enemies?can a person who uses natural psionics create a shield to stop it,as i understand it, powers of the mind are not magical and so are not part of the weave

what do u think?

Master TBeholder,

Agreed. Getting blasted by something that is connected to The Frost Maiden, sounds really bad!

Best regards,

I prefer to handle the silver fire as spellfire - which does have limitations as to the barriers and such that can stop it.

Silver fire is similar, but it's also a power of avatars and semidivine agents. So it AD&D2 terms should be comparable to an effect of an artifact/relic.
Kind of like "cone of cold" vs. "cone of cold power of some relic personally blessed by Auril". The second sounds significantly scarier, doesn't it?
So, not completely unstoppable, but should be harder to defend against.

Master Mage,

Ah, that makes sense. I can see the logic there. Geez...I cringe at the notion of someone getting Spellfire in my campaign(s) (but then again, it is possible as I run sandbox campaigns, and so I don't limit anything). That is super powerful stuff!

Actually, I do limit one thing...spell pen feats, spells, etc. that reduce spell resistance. That is the only thing I limit though.

Probably more than you ever wanted to know. haha

Best regards,

Seeker Barry,

You know, this is a really interesting question. To your first question though, "No magical or physical barrier has been discovered that can stand up against it, and the beam inflicts tremendous damage on all beings struck by it. Any nonliving object touched by the beam is utterly destroyed." (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Silver_fire)

As to the psionics part, that is very, very interesting. I don't think psionics can stop it, and here is my justification for saying so: in a 5th edition (now) primer from WotC, it was stated that, "And by drawing on your willpower and your own mental energy you can exert changes to the structure of reality around you." (https://rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/67799/what-is-psionics) It seems by this, that it is energy coming from the Far Realm, that is being used in an opened minds eye, to affect energy here, which then manifests into a more controlled effect. So, since Silverfire destroys anything nonliving that it comes into contact with, I would think that if you could surround yourself in some sort of Silverfire cocoon if you will, the psionic energy coming into contact with it (since energy isn't living as far as has been described) would be destroyed.

Thoughts from anyone else on that?

Best regards,

The answer in 3e game terms:

-The damage is fire damage. Spells and powers that grant fire resistance do prevent silver fire damage.
-The line on page 56 of the FRCS referring to magical barriers is about walls of force and their ilk.
-In 3rd Edition D&D, psionics are treated as magical effects, unless stated otherwise. They may not be part of the Weave, but SR is just as effective as PR against spells that allow spell resistance.

i believe that is how it works as well, psionics r not magical and there4 r not part of the weave
