Posted - 29 Dec 2010 : 22:45:06 I need to know her history - where can I find a complete synopsis?
I looked in Seven Sisters, and that tome is all but useless in this regard. I find her 'timeline' very confusing. |

Posted - 30 Dec 2010 : 11:51:36 I got these mentions from unofficial lore prepared by Steven Schend on Khelben Arunsun (not sure where it came from, but if memory serves me right, it was on the old REALMs-L list).
Khelben's Mariages/Loves:
Marriage/Love: 808-816 Wife/Lover: (Laeral) Details: Realizes his truelove in Laeral, though circumstances don’t allow the match to happen; Khelben’s identity dies, leaving Laeral to grieve.
Marriage/Love: 830s? Wife/Lover: (Laeral) Details: Second missed opportunity; this time, it is Khelben who holds Laeral off
Marriage/Love: 866ish Wife/Lover: (Laeral) Details: Third missed opportunity, since Khelben is married in his alias as Halver. Don’t see each other after sealing of Hellgate Keep for more than 200 years.
Marriage/Love: 1080s? Wife/Lover: (Laeral) Details: She’s married this time and he’s tied up with Harperstuff….. Go nearly 300 years apart…
Marriage/Love: 1329 – present Wife/Lover: Laeral Details: Khelben entrenched in Waterdeep as the Blackstaff by 1322; pursues Laeral across the North at times, though she is part of the Nine now and is reluctant to finally consummate 500 years of missed opportunities and unrequited passion. Khelben continues, saving her from the Crown of Horns in 1357. By 1360, the pair is finally together & inseparable.
It's more or less officially confirmed that Laeral was also part of the circle of mages that sealed Hellgate Keep in 886 DR (source: Hellgate Keep, p. 5). |

Posted - 30 Dec 2010 : 03:59:53 Port Llast was indeed the capital of Stornanter but Illusk was re-opened as a trade port and "happening place" for the realm after Laeral had warded off the Hosstower from intrusion (and made it difficult for its denizens to get out and harass the local townfolk).
She was a tough no-nonsense ruler and after Khelben/Malek's (sp?) 'death' [as noted in the flashback scene in "Blackstaff"] she gave up court life and wandered the realm - appointing 'champions' to wield authority in her name (and providing them each with Laeral's Storm Armor and Laeral's Spellshield sets) - until she came into conflict with Sylûne - whom she did not recognise as her sister.
When the two faced off in a 'spellduel to the death', Mystra intervened and told them of their Chosen status (or re-told them as the case may be) and then Azuth took them on a tour of the planes to further their magical education.
As for Laeral's 'evilness', I'm not too sure that any of the Seven have ever been sweet, goodie-two-shoes types. They've all had their evil moments - lots of them. The power of the goddess comes with a cost - usually paid in tough, ruthless and stone-hearted actions and dealings with others as required.

Posted - 30 Dec 2010 : 00:04:46 TY, Jarlaxle (and who said you were an evil Drow?)
I seem to recall some tidbits about her being semi-evil somewhat earlier then the timeline seems to allow. She wasn't too 'nice' earlier in her career (like when she battled Sylûne), or when she ruled Stornanter (and I could swear I recall - possibly from Blackstaff - that she ruled from Illusk, not Port Llast.)
GK, please help me! LOL |

Posted - 29 Dec 2010 : 23:54:48 From GHotR: -765DR Anamanué Laeral Silverhand, the fifth of seven daughters is born -806DR Laeral casts spells upon the Host Tower, trapping many liches of the Grand Cabal within it. The realm of Stornanter is established with Laeral the Witch-Queen of the North as its ruler. Stornanter, roughly triangular in shape, stretched from the River Mirar to the outlying farms of Neverwinter and from Swordsea Coast to the Crags. Stornanter's capital was the coastal town of Port Llast -841DR Laeral is manipulated into battling Syluné, and the sisters Silverhand would have destroyed each other if not for the intervention of Mystra, who invited both to become her Chosen Stornanter collapses after Laeral abandons it -875DR Algashon coerces Sammaster into attacking his former lover, Alustriel of Silverymoon. Alustriel is wounded in Sammaster's initial assault and calls for aid from Khelben Arunsun and Laeral Silverhand, two more Chosen of Mystra. Sammaster is stripped of his Chosen powers. Algashon saves Sammaster from death. Sammaster, insane, embraces evil from this point onward -1311DR The mage Arklem Greeth comes to Luskan and bypasses the ancient magical wards that Laeral Silverhand placed around the Host Tower of the Arcane. He forms the Brotherhood of the Arcane with the aid of the Old Ones-- powerful liches who were once members of the legendary Grand Cabal of Illusk. Arklem names himself Archmage Arcane of the Brotherhood -1337DR Laeral succumbs to the Crown of Horns in the Stronghold of the Nine on the banks of the Unicorn Run -1357DR Laeral is freed from the influence of the Crown of Horns by Khelben and Alustriel and slowly nursed back to sanity over the next three years in Blackstaff Tower -1361DR Four Cult of the Dragon archmages arrive outside of the Silverymoon and unleash spells to draw Alustriel out. She and Taern "Thunderspell" dispatch two of them easily, but Taern and other Spellguard members are soon kept busy with a dracolich unleashed on the southern walls. Alustriel defeats another Cult mage, but only the timely arrival of Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun and Laeral Silverhand saved Alustriel's life against the final archmage. 1372DR Khelben Arunsun leads an army from Waterdeep which becomes trapped within the Vale of Evereska. Laeral and Storm Silverhand lead a relief army against the thornbacks and their minions, battling armies of bugbears and lizardfolk thralls led by beholder and illithid generals. After months of war, the phaerimm are defeated.

Posted - 29 Dec 2010 : 23:43:12 I thought of that, but I hate flipping through all those pages to follow a single train of thought. Also, there were some tidbits elsewhere - Blackstaff, IIRC.
I guess no-one has ever bother to do an 'all-in-one-place' pdf of Laeral, eh?
Too bad, it would prove useful. I wonder how up-to-date Krash's timeline of The North is? |

Posted - 29 Dec 2010 : 23:30:32 Checking GHotR, Laeral's story starts around 806 DR (p. 103) when she established the realm of Stornanter with Port Llast as its capital. With the indexing in book, you can follow her story there... |
